SUFC: The Future SUFC up for sale

Do you know what? It didn't even occur to me that pre-season training would be starting soon. Maybe it was the late finish to the PL and Champions League, etc. this season that has led to me not realising how long lower league players have been on their summer breaks.

Last season's pre-season friendlies were announced on 1st June (so already some way behind on that), and the squad returned for pre-season training on 29th June. If they're aiming for the same this season then that's 2 weeks away. As you say, a week and a half if they start at the beginning of the week.

Another reason why those involved in this sale will want it done quickly, I'm sure.
You would think and hope so for sure. Personally i do not see any announcement before mid next week given the statement put out re exclusivity etc. Although I really hope it is this week so KM and his team can start getting in who they have planned too and keep who they want too

Are you Micky Flanagan? 😜

Is that our ground staff or are we paying a contractor?
I was thinking the same. Gut feel is that is ground staff doing the best job they can, with limited tools. But perhaps it's a little helping hand from someone...

Its says renovation rather than relaying?
Yes. You would want 6-8 weeks for seed to take and ideally planted several weeks ago. Hence my comment that it's late and pushing it for the surface to be tip top for first weekend in August. Anyway, it's happening which is a positive. Just a shame like everything we are late to the party again.

This isn't small time Ron Martin trying to borrow a couple of million with his destroyed financial and business reputation and his fried credit lines. This is a company whose parent is a worldwide venture capitalist and private equity investment firm. They have access to funds and a reputation that the rat could only ever dream of. They invest in risky/depressed businesses with high growth potential and seem to be successful in achieving that growth and increasing value in businesses much more often than not.

I know we've been burned by Martin, but not every "borrowing" situation is equal and we shouldn't always wince at the mere mention of it just because Martin has shown that he can't do it properly.

I understand that and hope they can but I would prefer to hear from them what they plan to do and how it will be funded. Until then I won't get carried away with stories of mass investment.

Football Pitch Maintenance

If sowing Perennial ryegrass seed, the optimum soil temperature for rapid establishment is 10-20°c, with the warmer end of that scale seeing the most rapid germination. In most years, this makes late April to mid-June the perfect window for establishing a football pitch.

We're very much at the end of that period, but in theory it should be ok.

Would we own 3 tractors? Although guess we could hire them for a day or 2 - note they're not PG branded
we strip and relay the pitch every year - it's paid for by the 'hire the pitch' thing they do every May where you hire a morning / afternoon / evening slot whereby anyone can play on it.
My Sunday team did it last year - cost about £1200 for a 3 hour afternoon slot. Rhys asked me if we wanted to do it again this year.
That is what pays for the ripping up and relaying the pitch.
The pitch hire only finished on 31st May but yes seems a bit later this year.

They don’t advertise that very well - I’ve never heard of it in more than 30 years following Southend!

It was on the club website, several times I think, range of dates and prices to do so.

That’s not to say they couldn’t improve the advertisement of it, if your saying you had never heard of it, then it clearly shows they are not reaching the full potential audience.
