Actually if you don;t herd them teh none violent ones run off , thus exposing the violent ones easier or making them scatter quicker thus preventing damage. Ruins great photo opportunities .

Have you ever dealt with a riot? A riot, off the top of my head, being Section 1 of the Public Order Act 1986 and is defined as 12 or more persons together for a common purpose, their actions causing a person of reasonable firmness whether at the scene or not, to fear for their safety. Or words to that effect. I have, this time last year. There were 4 of us dealing with it, and without knowing it, we used the so called 'kettling' tactic, after we had too many smaller incidents to deal with over a larger area.

So, I speak from personal experience, that kettling works. It may not be perfect, but, Lucy Pinder aside, no-one/nothing ever is perfect.....

Quite right. But nobody has suggested that the student who required brain surgery after being hit by a police truncheon was anything other than unarmed(sic),nor is there any evidence to suggest that he was attacking the police.
I would also agree with you that students have the right to protest peacefully "unharmed" too. :smiles:

You are insinuating that the copper is automatically guilty. Why? If he/she is guilty, then fine, I hope they rot, but unless that is proved, they are innocent until proven guilty

This does, for me, prove what a lightweight Red Ed is. A top class politician such as Tony Blair would have drained every bit of advantage out of this situation, and undermined The Coalition at every turn. Probably why the Tories don't seem overly perturbed by it all. Man I miss Blair.

No, I said in an earlier post that I hoped someone would be charged and if found guilty convicted.I'm aware (as you suggested in a pevious post)that there MIGHT be extenuating circumstances.

Do you mean you hope there is a thorough investigation, and IF, there is evidence to suggest someone in the wrong, then the CPS would then consider charges? :)

Yorkshire Blue; Not sure whereabouts in Spain HE is said:
In the circles I move in H.E is a fairly well known and widely used acronym for Higher Education as in eg THE = Times Higher Education(magazine née supplement).Don't see the og here but I do like the use of rhyming slang.

I would also like to see the Parachute Regiment put charge of crowd control...... especially at weekends....

Yes, at a top flight university after achieving excellent A Level results. I then used my education to get well paid jobs that helped me pay back my student loans. That's the only type of student who should be allowed to exist.

What if these top notch graduates end up working for the Iranian nuclear program?

1) I was being sarcastic
2) Water cannons and cattle prod's also work , dosnt mean either should be employed . One otehr thing then you are aware that the infultrators hide better in large crowd's so if they wish to operate then the less cover given for them to hide in surly the better chance you have of finding them when they do strike ? And that ones logic

I see he is a self confessed 'Activist' and 'Blogger' who seems to like protesting at a variety of things (some worthwhile it must be added). Seems like may have got exactly the reaction he wanted and will no doubt be delighted with the police action and the publicity it will bring him.

He also suffers from cerebral palsey. Not good PR for the Met.

The other trade unions seem very quiet and don't seem to be supporting the students at all.

Theye did that in teh miners strike (plus if you leave a cases of stella at the side their some what distracted :D)

I was thinking of a day in Ireland that didn't go too well a few years back, and it wasn't a Saturday. At least Genial Harry Grout knew where I was coming from.

Unfortunately.....

It's really not worth the hassle . A harpoon gun 4 6 v batteries tied to it in circuit via a copper coil and you fire it in the cannons tank well its 5th of Nov ;) .

On a serious note they really should have sorted out the intel before hand (which is what they are just saying their doing now ) they know who ring leaders are stop and search is justified in this case .
