The other trade unions seem very quiet and don't seem to be supporting the students at all.
That's actually a very good point. Not so many years ago, unions were joined at the hip during disputes but the silence is deafening this time. Back in the 80's there was a major dispute between management and the UCW Union which represented communication workers (postmen, BT, etc) There was a blanket walkout across the SS postal district and ballots sent out across London and the South East over support action. We recieved offers of support from the RMT, Sogat 82 and even the NUM who were having their own problems at the time. As it turned out the management was right and we were wrong (but would never have admitted it) and we returned to work a week later but the point is we were being backed to the hilt. Why not the same level of support for the NUS.
