Not where I work.

There are several rounds of interviews to get a summer/yearly internship and competition is fierce. Successful candidates are paid and receive plenty of training whilst here. They are treated like permanent employees wherever possible.

I got plied with alcohol a lot more as a summer student on a vacation scheme than as a permanent employee.
