Fair play. Now that you put it like that, I have completely misinterpreted your post :peace:

Personally, my benchmark for new strikers is a maximum of 7.7 seconds before their first goal. Failure to attain such a basic standard indicates that they are not good enough for the Thames Estuary Galacticos.

No worries! Agreed that he needs a freddy style hat trick or it will be a terrible signing!! To be fair - if he settles like the Irish lads at reading, hunt, long and Doyle, it could be a dream signing.
 
so on saturday we will probably start with Dickinson and Benyon (if he is fit enough). With Sampson and Flood on the bench? Meaning no space for Harris and Sturrock. Asante and Crawford will never play for Southend again probably. And hopefully Corr WILL play for Southend again. Not forgetting that Mohsni is always a threat to put upfront when we are losing and Ryan Hall can do a very decent job upfront too.
Phew, I think thats everyone sorted.
Just the 11 potential strikers then.
From reading into that, you would assume: Asante and Crawford will leave. Corr may never play for us again. Sampson is only a loan. That still leaves us with 7 potential strikers. With 5 as actual strikers.
Still quite alot. Maybe Harris could be leaving? Why has Blair Sturrock had his contract extended? Surely, he wont play?
 
Just seen that Gills have signed Jo Kaffour from Brizzle rovers and tomlin from daggers yesterday. They are two very good signings especially Kaffour. They already had a decent forward line with that guy kedwell, think they are going to be strong 2nd half of season. Wouldnt have minded kaffour at our place to be honest...and he was on a free.

I think they already had Kuffour on loan from Bristol and Tomlin was rumoured to be coming to Roots Hall.

Kuffour is v good at this level but doubt Sturrock would be interested as not his sort of striker. Dont rate Tomlin at all
 
Im surprised people are surprised we have signed some forwards?

Sturrock is out of contract
Corr is out for the season
Harris has not scored enough goals


That pretty much leaves Dickinson as our only striker who has had some decent effect this season. Benyon is a geat addition, the Bolton lad is only here for a month, and Flood is a free signing. It hasnt broken the bank to get these three in, and it gives us some much needed options up top.

That said, if there is some small dollar left for a new left back, would be v happy, Not owned a decent left back for many years now. Only good ones we have had have been on loan (Mulgrew, Harding etc).
This isnt an aimless dig at Gilbert, as getting back to back promotions with Che proves you only need an average left back to suceed, but if we could get someone on the left, as good as Clohessy is on the right, would be a much stronger team.

Sturrock has signed another contract. Harris hasn't been hitting top form, but I don't expect the signings we have made to be up there scoring loads either. Benyon will need game time to get match fit after not playing much recently, Sampson from Bolton is a target-man and Flood sounds like a target-man as well. Sounds like we will be playing Sampson or Flood with Dickinson or Harris.
 
If im right Harris has scored 6 or 7 this season, if he continues he will finish with around 12/14 goals. Would that not be a decent return. I dont think the goat got many more than 10/11 when he was here and Tilson dropped him from the side a few times. I dont remember people having a go about him. Goater had Eastwood next to him and so it took a lot of pressure off him, at the mo the likes of dickinson and benyon need to likewise.
