Streaming - DAZN

Like a lot of supporters, I didn't get a ticket for the Braintree game so will be streaming this with WS Junior. Sounds like we will all need to take deep breaths and be prepared for a less than perfect service...

The York coverage worked ok for me. It does seem to depend on the capabilities of the camera(s) at a ground, and the abilities of the cameraman. I believe the Braintree game is an enhanced one with DAZN providing more cameras, hence the 5.30 ko. So it may be an ok watch, we will see.

Whilst not disagreeing that yesterday’s coverage was not very clever, I’m of an age when I can remember that to find out the result of a game let alone goal scorers or any report, you had to wait until the newspaper came through your letter box the next morning.

Then of course there was teletext, local radio - if you still lived in the area, the internet and now streaming live games

Who would have thought 60 years ago that you could sit in your own front room watching live action ( well with a 60 second delay) on your own tv for any professional game in the country.

Ok the coverage wasn’t great yesterday and it’s all done on the cheap and is probably a giant loss leader for DAZN as the market demand is going to be tiny. But to my mind the coverage has 90%-95% of the time been fine, buffering is probably down to the quality of your broadband. The picture and camera work at NL level will depend to a large extent on the structure at each ground. I’m guessing it won’t be great at Braintree as they won’t be able to get too high off the ground nor far enough away from the pitch. But it’ll be worth a tenner or free for those who paid yesterday just to be in touch with the action.

If people don’t use it those who do could lose it.

There is no excuse for their poor service and dreadful admin. We should not be grateful that they deign to provide us with a substandard product which is over priced anyway. Services like Go3 in Europe provide quality coverage of every league game in the Premiership and many others in the championship etc for the princely sum of €12.99 per month with never any problem at all.

Just got the same reply from DAZN saying that as I accessed the service (sic!) I am not eligible for a refund. I think we need a group action to hold these cowboys to account via Advertising Standsrds Authority or some other appropriate body.
The problem with refunds is that a UK week pass at £9.99 gives access to all national league games including some of the nl north and south that are on during the 7 day period (excluding all affected by the Saturday 3pm blackout!) plus it unlocks other content like match replays and a highlights show of dubious quality. This week the 7 day pass will include Wednesday's game at Braintree. Most of us on this forum only want the live streams of our game and couldn't give a fig about the "added content" but it's hard to see any refunds being offered for a "foggy" view of one half of one game when there is "so much more" available with the pass.
I'm in no way excusing the awful quality of the product in some instances but I think this is where we are likely to be with DAZN.

I agree they will probably try to wriggle out of their responsibilty to provide satisfactory picture quality on the grounds you give examples of with alternatives but the fact remains their coverage of 'our' game was virtually unwatchable for long periods. I am therefore going to lodge a complaint with the Consumer Council and see what happens.

Could it be a job for the Shrimpers Trust on behalf of fans who spent their hard-earned money?
Lovely idea, but I doubt the Trust would have any success against the likes of DAZN which is a multinational company. You would think that the National League would be kicking their door down, but as long as the revenue stream continues to deliver profit, I doubt they will do anything. It's also worth mentioning that anyone using a VPN to watch a 3pm Saturday game from the UK is not meant to be streaming anyway, which completely knackers any complaint for that sort of game. There's always IPTV I suppose, but by all accounts that's illegal also.

Of course there are many genuine non Uk residents on this site who subscribe to DAZN and who have been inconvenienced and frustrated at what is the latest example of the incompetent, unsatisfactory level of service. I would have thought an approach to DAZN and indeed the National League by the Trust and Shrimperzone would be appropriate and at the very least let them know that we are dissatisfied with their attitude and want to see improvement.

There absolutely are genuine non UK Zoners using DAZN, and I've never said there aren't. I deliberately kept my comments geared towards UK viewers. The National League may well have some influence on DAZN and it would be good if they did press for service improvements but I've yet to see any publicity of that anywhere. By all means approach the Trust and offer up views, as for the Zone, that is a matter for @Cricko.

I am due to go away shortly ( sailing over to Oz)
Obviously I would like to try and see some games while away and especially if on a sea day.
When I was away earlier in the year (Feb/Mar) I was able to watch some games via the NLTV but this DAZN is somewhat different
I will have internet access from the ship but wondering how would be best to view. Any thoughts/ tips etc would be appreciated.

When you were away earlier, did you have to use a VPN to access the NL site @Tinks, or did the ship's internet IP address show you were actually outside the UK?

Perhaps we are not alone in being the victim of poor service from DAZN and maybe an approach could be made to other NL clubs forums to see if they are experiencing similar difficulties because if so a joint approach to the NL and DAZN might be more effective than just one club raising the issue.

@Cricko, Mods, any thoughts? And for that matter, would it be worth raising it with the Club?

I have just checked with my daughter who was with us on our last trek and she said we didn’t have to use any VPN as the ship was in international waters.

That being so you should be able to watch games on board via DAZN. I'm assuming you have registered with DAZN?
