This thread proves why fans are so fickle,ST saved us from relegation to non league,Cup finals,Promotions,Games against the big boys and he still gets stick.

The relegations ,The club was punching above its weight in the championship whilst the league 1 debacle was taking from Steves hands largely due to his players not being paid.

Loyalty is one thing this game lacks yet Steve was loyal to the end.

Was he? Really? I don't think so, I think he was stuck and could go nowhere once Brush went.

Any manager who remains at the helm for more than 3 years in todays game is doing very well,RM crushed ST with his fun and games and i hope ST bounces back and proves his doubters wrong.

Manchester United can't get promoted however they can go from a mid table top flight team to a major European power in football and still there!

Yet they didnt win anything last year, and its very possible they wont win the league this year either, that doesnt mean Fergie is a failure as he still achieved what he did, same as Tilson achieved more than any manager we have had.

But still the argument remains we are back where we started HE was in charge when all the good work done went wrong he failed to steady the ship

This is why he is not the great hero everybody makes out yes it all started as well as possible never forget that but at the same time you cant forget that this manager was at the helm over 2 relegation's with a year on year drop in league position since the championship. As Ron would say Downward Spiral

Biggest load of **** i've read in ages, the "downward spiral" was caused by that **** of an owner by not paying the players and other staff. Wonder how well you would perform in your job if you hadn't been paid for months. As for your continual ******** about Tilly not being a nice bloke, yeah what sort of bloke would use his own savings to help a player pay his mortgage because they hadn't been paid ?

Does not matter what job you do if you dont get paid as per your contract then your performance will go downhill.

Bigger clubs than us have suffered relegation from the championship and if we ever get there again,Guess what another relegation will be forthcoming.

When you cant pay or sign players and end up with only one defender you cant be expected to succeed.

Downward spiral was caused by our finances ruining our team, not the other way around.

Steve Tilsons biggest mistake ? Loyalty ...

1/ not leaving when SUFC made the Championship - and we couldn't significantly improve the squad

2/ not leaving at the start of the league 1 relegation season when he had a squad of just 13 professionals

3/ not leaving when Lee Barnard was sold

4/ not leaving the first time the pay was late

5/ not leaving when the non payment of staff became public

6/not leaving when Barratt outed RM lies about not paying the players

7/ not leaving when Brush got sacked

8/ not selling Eastwood in January of the CCC season -

I reckon there was a point when his loyalty and sentimental attachment to SUFC definitely became a weakness -

BUT I guess RM owed him shedloads of money - which you might have no chance of getting if you walked

What a random time to post such a thread, where on earth has this come from. Let it go - Tilson is long gone.

The king is dead, long live the king

43) Not spending the £5,000,000 from Sainsburys.

Why have you raised this yawning subject?

Tilly is a legend and always will be but get a grip, he made many mistakes too. His was tactically weak, made some very poor signings, released some good players and lost the changing room during the relegation to league two (despite late payments).

He gave us some memories that will stay with us through our lives. Some love him, some like him and some borderline worship him but maybe it's time to move on Rayleigh boy. This subject has been addressed time and time again.

Get behind Sturrock and the team, that's what matters now

What sort of bloke is heard saying to the Ticket office manager - when questioned about putting out the youth when we have sold over 10k tickets "**** the fans"?

What sort of bloke lies and tells the old bill blatant lies about his own fans to get them in trouble?

2 sides to every story!

As for not getting paid... I was in a job few years ago when the company was in trouble I was not paid for 2 months it was a struggle but I stayed professional and knew if we all pulled together we would get the company out of the ****.

lets not forget either I had no magic union like the PFA backing up my wages!!!!

Scott, since when did you start kissing Ron's a**e?.

Woahh hold on there far from that!

What I am saying is that its easy to blame Ron when Tilson is the golden boy in everybodys eyes, now dont get me wrong 2 back to back promotions and some very nice football I was loving just as much as the next person! however there is in my eyes sufficient blame at the managers door here specific times when he would refuse to make a change and not really have any tactical nous

In closing ALWAYS remember the good times - but NEVER forget the lessons learned!

I think your personal opinion of Steve Tilson has affected the way you view his achievements with us.
