Would it?!

Of course it would. What would be the point of that sentence if he didn't want people to believe the implication that if Luggy wants to bring in players it would be possible. Whether that implication is valid or not is another matter.

Do you know, it's rather tiresome when the in crowd continually talk in hints, winks and nudges, it makes having a proper discussion almost impossible. If you think or know that the embargo is still in place then for heaven's sake just come out and say so. And if you are just guessing/assuming, then likewise. It is perfectly possible to say "I have good reason to believe we are still under an Embargo" without giving away any sources.

Actions speak louder than words. For his statement to have any meaning I would assume he would have to get the embargo lifted, pay all back room staff up to date and get some more cash to fund the club in the short term (possibly with another investor/mug to be CEO for 6 months). There is no point mentioning anything on the new stadium as most people would only believe it was happening when diggers are on site.

The point of the statement is to continue with his smoke and mirrors statements.

The truth is Ron martin talks a good game and has grand idea, unfortunately for him and us he has no way to bring these ideas into the real world and talks himself into corners and when challenged hires someone else to do the talking and when they realise they are just his puppet they resign.

Well, I read that statement and interpreted the following.

1 - There was an acknowledgement that communication with the fans had been poor and that it would change in future. I suppose that bearing in mind no-one actually believes what he says anyway then that is maybe a questionable benefit. But then we can't have it all ways; everyone has been crying out for information so we should at least appreciate what we do get.

2 - There are positive, exciting changes going on and changes in the behind the scenes management due to be announced. I guess this relates to an appointment of a new CEO or similar. I really don't think that a positive and exciting change would be to announce the departure of many backroom staff.

3 - The embargo must have been or is just about to be lifted otherwise there is no point in saying Luggy can get players in as soon as he identifies them. He just wouldn't say anything.

4 - There are veiled hints that FF is inching towards completion, with the "line of sight" growing ever clearer and with us "gearing up to move to the new stadium".

All in all, whilst it didn't say much, the above is I think some positive news in amongst the stuff we all know about, i.e. the team spirit is good, the club is struggling with cash flow and we are expected to go up this year.

Throughout the embargos we have been told we are looking to bring players in. That sentence means nothing until a player is signed.

Last week all wages were paid including management, so that was promising, however since Ive heard that staff werent paid on Friday so whether they are still up to date I dont know.

I'm looking forward to the weekly 'chairman's blogs' - especially the unnecessary long words and lack of substance

This would imply that the embargo has been lifted.

I would say that it implies that Ron wants us to read it this way.

It has been glaringly obvious where we need resources, , to 'imply' that Sturrock has not yet noticed this and has not yet identified any players he would like to bring is is frankly ridiculous. Unless of course by 'right players' Ron's idea of right and Luggy's are very different (ROn wants to shop at Harrods but with Aldi money)

Completely agree.

Exactly this. Ron is almost passing the blame if you like on to Sturrock.

Sturrock has been saying for weeks and weeks, he wants a couple of midfielders in. Of course he has identified several targets, he just hasn't been able to bring them in. And that is not his fault.

But the fact Ronald has come out and said that, would suggest the embargo is probably very close to being lifted. If not, then that is a very brave move and will put unfair pressure on the manager.

I would say mendacious rather than "brave".

Southend United chairman Ron Martin writes to Blues supporters in an open letter.
At a recent meeting with club staff it was felt that there was a lack of flow of information to supporters.
"I've been looking on ShrimperZone"

I think this is a valid criticism and I must, in part, take a responsibility, but with the recent departure of Gary Lockett as CEO at the club (Gary will remain a non executive director) inevitably creates uncertainty in supporters’ minds. This coupled with a ‘lack of information’ is unhelpful.
"I don't want to say anything because you won't believe me"

There are changes taking place at the club but these are positive, exciting changes and it is right that fans be kept informed. However, at times I hope the majority of supporters understand that I am unable to openly discuss the clubs plans without risking damage to the clubs interests. Unquestionably the future is exciting even though the club continues to wrestle with its short term cash requirements to ensure the on field investment to get us out of this league is maintained.
"People keep leaving, I am skint and please stop asking questions"

There will be further announcements this week, which surround behind the scenes management as we gear up to move to the new stadium. My focus for a long time has been completing a major ‘jigsaw’ to enable development of our future and which everyone will understand has been made all the more difficult during these challenging economic times.
"Please wait, my next load of spin will be out soon"

However as our ‘line of sight’ grows ever clearer the changes that to take place will positively compliment the bigger picture. I am determined to get this club firing on all cylinders behind the scenes to ensure that Paul receives the support that he needs. That said he has already assembled an excellent group of players and created a brilliant team spirit that I have not seen at Southend United Football Club for many years. It is a joy to watch the goal celebration and long may that continue, starting tomorrow!
"I will be sacking a few more staff so I can pay the players --- other staff will have to continue waiting for pay. Keep scoring goals , it keeps the plebs off my back"

I do not wish to put Paul Sturrock under extra pressure but the ‘feel good factor’ will certainly stand this years squad in very good stead to complete the job we so nearly achieved last season. There are areas where reinforcements are needed and Paul will be supported when he identifies the right players to join us.
"Sturrock , get my club promoted or you are out!"

In closing I just want to reiterate that if the club has been lax in communicating with its supporters then this will now change. Of course commercial sensitivities will still be protected but we are one group of people, United in Southend’s success.
"I have managed to avoid you lot for ages, but now I need your money more than ever because no-one will lend me any.
Keep handing your cash over and don't forget to pay for next year's season cards by the end of October, love Ron."

:smile::smile::smile::smile: Absolutely bang on

Sturrock Jnr seems to have a fairly low opinion of someone.

Something tells me Blair Sturrock is not enamoured of Mr Martin either (whether because he has not been paid, or more worryingly because of something happening to his father) from his latest tweet:

Ron is a lot of things, but he isn't stupid. What you suggest here, that he is deliberately setting Sturrock up to take the blame for not bringing in players, makes very little sense. RM knows (as we all should) that Sturrock gaining success on the field is almost as important for the future existence of this club as moving to Fossets. He is the last person RM would want to upset.

Apparently Blair Sturrock has an ongoing feud with Ronald McDonald.

Pretty significant if the managers son is having a pop at RM, in fact extremely significant I would say
