Bonne has to start for me, just on the basis if he's gonna score then surely it could be against an old team of his. We all know this always works against us with former players.
I think that's more wishful and hopeful thinking than realistic. He couldn't score from 6 yards out against an awful Tamworth team, so we can't expect him to score against a side 2 leagues above. I'm not adverse to him starting, as he applied himself well, but I'm not thinking it's his time to score because it's a former club.Bonne has to start for me, just on the basis if he's gonna score then surely it could be against an old team of his. We spent two months bemoaning his absence. Of course he’s going to come back into the side once fully fit.People that genuinely think Miley should walk back into the team baffle me. Werent exactly at his best before he got injured. Plus we are 4 unbeaten and not conceded a goal. On that form no one has the right to walk straight into the team.
Can't stress this enough. He's streets ahead of MortonWe spent two months bemoaning his absence. Of course he’s going to come back into the side once fully fit.
Without him we lost to the likes of Sutton, Fylde and Maidenhead.
I think he probably needs another sub appearance first but he’s been one of Maher’s first names on the team sheet for a reason.
Perhaps we could loan a player to poor old Man City, they only have 13We have 20 available players so the squad is complete, and if Danny Waldron is fit enough he fills the bench.
If Saturday was anything to go by I think Bonne plays as the Target Man going forward with Bim and Walker rotating as the legs to play off of him. Bonne won a lot of flick ons Saturday and was better in the air than the other two and so the closest thing to a Cardwell we have. Also he was strong defensively from set plays in our own box, something the other two aren't necessarily great at.I think he'll play Bonne over Walker, down to Bonne's greater experience at the higher level and to a certain degree, greater success at that level than Walker.
Obviously, the above isn't the be all and end all, attitude, training performance, fitness and commitment are all going to play a part, but if all of those are inseparable, then experience at the higher level would possibly be the decider.
Bim has to play imho, as he has the greater strength in his play to unsettle an opponent, even though he is raw, he is the striker that is delivering at the moment.
It is the HOPE that gets us all>[/HEADING]

Let’s hope we get a couple of good luck breaks, Bonne scores along with Bim and we turn over Charlton, then go on and double our income in the next round, which should also attract TV money. COYB UTB
The exact words were:Interesting that some fans of Charlton aren't fans of Bonne so would expect he will receive a bit of verbal stick on Saturday.Hopefully this will motivate him to improve and score against his old team
Yes but do they like him or not?The exact words were:
"I hope we (probably A. Mitchell) absolutely clean out Bonne early doors, and then kicks him around the park all game - that odious little prick really needs to get what's coming to him, and if we dare let him score.....!!!"
Team talk done!
They probably liked him scoring 11 in 26 (7 subs) starts for them in the Championship, then hated him when he jumped ship when they were relegated to L1 (to stay in the Championship).Yes but do they like him or not?
Well I, for one, would love to see it!They probably liked him scoring 11 in 26 (7 subs) starts for them in the Championship, then hated him when he jumped ship when they were relegated to L1 (to stay in the Championship).
I think we all know if you want to know about a player the last people you ask is fans from a club he left…
But I’m sure he will get the bird deserved or not. Its for us to support our own and nothing would surpass the joy of him scoring the winner in front of the North Bank (for both him or us)...however unlikely..
Do you think he would celebrate? My guess is yes at length…
Good preview except for the fact that we got to the 1st round back in 21/22 when we lost at Chesterfield.Good preview here from the other side of the fence:

The FA Cup - 1st Round Proper
Southend United vs Charlton Athletic
Saturday 2nd November 2024 - 3pm Kick-Off
Referee: Darren Drysdale
Introduction
Its that time of the year again which makes many a Charlton Lifer shake with nerves, and no I dont mean the creation of the January Transfer Window thread. Instead its the yearly return of the FA Cup, many Charlton fan regards it as a brief return, a distraction that happens on very rare occasions, like the form of Scott Fraser - After all, our history is littered with cupsets; Dag & Red (NOO!!), Northwich Victoria (STOP IT!!)... Cray Valley Paper Mills (WHYYYY!!) - Will this weekend be another match cosigned to the unwanted history books, stored in the deepest darkest regions of Life Towers... Will anyone be surprised?
The Opposition
Name: Southend United - Manager: Kevin Maher
Ground: Roots Hall
League: National League
Standing in our way this weekend, is a new Non-League team; Southend United, who have had their own struggles just to get to this stage of the competition. On the pitch its been simple, they've had to win just a single game in the FA Cup, which came against fellow league side: Eastleigh, a 1-0 victory putting the Shrimpers into the First Round of the FA Cup, for the first time since their relegation from the Football League in 2023.
In the League they sit 14th, just four points from the Play-Offs, so they could yet make a speedy return to the EFL under Kevin Maher who played over 300-games whilst at the club - Its off the pitch where their problems have been, with various financial and ownership difficulties putting the historic club at risk of even existing, with various winding up orders making any takeover a challenging business... No one wants to see a Football club die, and thankfully that doesnt seem to be the case with Southend, on 19th July 2024, their takeover was completed, a consortium of members, all aiming to drag Southend (who had been in the Football League since 1920), back to where they belong.
Naturally all eyes will be on one Striker this coming Saturday, who has been getting involved more and more of late, playing 90mins last weekend against Tamworth; Macauley Bonne has yet to score this season, so we all know what that means - Southend themselves will be looking to reach the Second Round Proper, for the first time since 2019, not the worst opponents standing in their way for a "Giant-Killing", something that I'm sure will give everyone a boost at Roots Hall, am sure they could do with it!!
Charlton Team News
One player who I'm sure will be disappointed to miss out this weekend is Daniel Kanu, the young Striker spent a short loan period at Roots Hall last season, scoring four goals in a single game against Solihull Moors, and would surely have been delighted to face some familiar faces... However its likely that Daniel will remain out with an injury.
In terms of the squad selection, we could well see a bit of a hybrid team to the one that faced Chelsea U21s on Tuesday night, with some first teamers coming back into the squad to ensure a level of match fitness remains - The likes of Ashley Maynard-Brewer, and Terry Taylor who both impressed in the EFL Trophy, could keep their places, along with Miles Leaburn who'll be looking to add to his tally after getting off the mark in front of goal against his previous Employers - Elsewhere and there might be more minutes for Danny Hylton, who showed a decent degree of experience and Kaheim Dixon who'll want to improve in that particular field.
Maynard-Brewer
Edmonds-Green - A.Mitchell - Gillesphey - Small
Coventry - Taylor
Anderson - A.Campbell
Leaburn - T.Campbell
Substitutes Bench: Reid - Z.Mitchell - Edwards - Docherty - Edun - Dixon - Hylton
We weren’t relegated in 2023 either!Good preview except for the fact that we got to the 1st round back in 21/22 when we lost at Chesterfield.
We haven’t been relegated since 2021 so we are on a bit of a rollWe weren’t relegated in 2023 either!
Well thats crap. Footballs still in the dark ages regarding this stuff.Got this reply from SUFC earler
" Unfortunately Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup Fixture will not be live streamed as per tournament regulations. Further, as the game is being played on a Saturday 3pm kick-off we would not be able to broadcast the game domestically as per article 48 of the UEFA Statutes. Sorry for the inconvenience this may cause."
