Probably 2009 v Huddersfield att. 8,059 cant remember how many away fans though.
If not that then 2008 v Peterborough att. 8,665.

I see only 1,461 home tickets sold for the Newport cup game on Tuesday so far./QUOTE]

I haven't looked at that game, the East and South is only open isn't it? we normally only get about 3k for these early cup games so I'm not surprised.

Only East Stand open at the moment for Newport game.

What's noticeable the fans believe in what the club's trying to achieve and they're coming out in numbers bearing in mind a lot are still on holiday. I'm not surprised though. I think we all know we're a bit of a sleeping giant if managed right and under PB and RM we're heading in the right direction. All we need now is that elusive bloody new stadium :stunned:

No we're not.

We have never been a giant and are around the upper end of where we should be.

However, with the new stadium, we could be a developing giant. No reason why that shouldn't happen. But if we go up with our current set up we will be punching above our weight.

600 extra a game at home x £20 say x 23 games = £276,000. Good money for Ron but hardly spectacular ............ and a good (well, any?) F.A., League or L.D.V. Cup run would bring in similar sums possibly.

Madness to think that is about 2 and a half days wages for Neymar :nope:

I did say if we're managed right........At our current ground, I would agree with you but with a new ground, I do believe we are a sleeping giant. Swansea are a fine example of what we should be looking at and certainly capable of achieving.

Absolutely, so are Reading.

But the phrase "sleeping giant" means that we have, at one point, been a giant that has gone to sleep.

We've never been a giant, unless the comparison is Billericay, Canvey, Chelmsford, etc.. Hence why I said "developing giant" which we absolutely could be, with the right management and stadium.

In the 40's, 50's and 60's we use to get very good crowds, though the 70's and (80's especially) were very poor. Our fan base and catchment area have grown since those days. I very much agree with you about the new stadium, we just can't progress any further without it, which makes it so frustrating.

I do understand those that are thinking we will get beat; I suppose that is based on a perceived weakness at CB and LB positions with an unknown centre midfield.
However we ARE stonger in attack than we have been for perhaps a decade or more.
Could PB play Kightly, and Theo for width and pace as well as Cox and MAF in a sort of 4 2 2 2 formation?............and with the classic Fry mentality of "you score 2, we will score 4".

Hardly PB's style,is it?

I am not sure we have really seen PB's style as he has largely played with what he had available. We were good scorers last year - and that seemed unlikely didn't it.
We are, IMO, a CB away from a very good (for this division) squad - or would be if we had all players fit, available and uninjured.

Should be 9k in for this one now. Decent gate for what is arguably our slowest point of the season. Lot of people are away on there family holidays.

I don't think we'd have this sort of numbers if we weren't playing Blackburn. Imagine 10k turning up for Doncaster?!?

Perhaps we can say we are a larger than average person?
