Clearly you didn't see the appalling back header which unnecessarily put Ted into terrible trouble minutes into his recall.

Very similar to Efe's unforced error very early on against the half breds, which pretty much sealed our relegation.

If it had been Cureton rather than Poleon on the receiving end you would have been saying very different things about Ferdy.

That was pretty much the only error he made all match, we're League 1, expecting our defenders to never make a mistake is unrealistic and ignoring all the great things about him for that one error is ridiculous.

Certainly seems to me to be one of the most inspired and influential signings since Prior or possibly Goater

Exactly this, and It certainly wasn't as bad as the back pass by £50m John Stones that cost Man City a goal the other week.

When I see Anton play I see a defender who rarely moves out of position when defending. Thompson (and Demmy and Timin) can track a player as they move away from the penalty box but Anton just leaves the player and comes back into position. Surely it can't be as simple as that, can it?

It is when you have the brain and experience to read the game the way he does. He might not be the quickest of foot but the quickness of thought seems to outweigh that, yes, he makes the odd error but they never seem to really cost us and, hey, you show me a League One defender that doesn't make the odd error.

Incidentally, has Tyrone Barnett found his way out of Anton's back pocket yet?

One error which thankfully didn't cost us,everything else he did oozed class, for league 1 standard he is above average.

I watched the error Ferdinand made yesterday. A good save ensued. I do struggle to think of many more this season and rate him as one of the best centre halves I have seen at the Blues and boy have I seen hundreds.

When we signed AF, we didn't just get one new signing but we got two. The change in Thompson is unbelievable, I have always liked him, but he has improved so much. I am sure that other clubs will be looking at him in January.

Joke post of the year.

Anton has been a first class signing, he seems in total control, great reading of the game and a calming influence. He doesn't overplay - when the ball should go into the back of the stand he does it. With the lack of decent CB's around I wonder if there is any championship clubs regretting signing him?

If we are looking to break into the championship the players like anton will be invaluable.

As much as I love players like adam Barrett he has never possessed the quality that the likes of ferdinand has.

It's essential we offer him another year asap.

In the strange world of Football, what if Dominic Ball had signed for us and not Rotherham. We probably would have not signed Anton.

Someone can check this but I believe Ball has had 13 starts and is yet to be on a winning team. Anton has had 16 starts and how many times have we lost........Just once.

Interesting points, Rigsby. And the great thing about Anton Ferdinand is that he did not cost the club the six-figure transfer fee that Rotherham reportedly shelled out for Dominic Ball.

I think League 1 is now where AF excels, a QPR season ticket holder mate said that AF was found out in the Championship with them, that was a few seasons ago too.

I'm not knocking him, chuffed to bits that he's with us, just saying that if we do go up, we'll need to strengthen again in most areas, and having see the results of us doing so before, I'd be a little apprehensive.

I seem to recall he was with QPR in the Prem and as released when they were relegated to the Championship. Allegedly to save on the wage bill.

I note that Q.P.R. are 5th from bottom and have lost their last 6 games so it is quite possible that Anton might be lining up against Q.P.R. next season. :smiles:

I think it would be brilliant if we were lining up in the Championship whatever the opposition. AF has 250 plus Prem match experience behind him and will only be 32 as next season begins. I think AF, Cox, Ranger, lenny, Demetriou, SM, Thommo and possibly Coker could perform at that level. WA for me would be a squad player then but may surprise me. It may be a bit much for MAF then and beyond GM in my book. Sokolik is an unknown at that level but may come good and then we have a few youngsters that may progress. All in all it would likely be we need ten or eleven new faces to compete.

Right now I am happy for them to concentrate on this season and worry about the Championship dream when it becomes a reality. Or not.

I think Anton has been an excellent signing. Fitness and getting back to playing week in, week out were my only concerns. Who knows what will happen for the rest of this season. Think we will have an idea by the end of next month. Big home games against sides above us. Get a decent points haul is a must and let us hope we stay injury free. Would like to see Ryan Leonard rewarded with a longer contract. Very important player.
