Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 4-0 Ebbsfleet

He wasn't and this is a good example of how crap gets spread.
Ralph had been booked for his first foul, where as the c/backs of Ebbsfleet had got away with many fouls on, especially, Bim. A shout was made about the ref's inconsistency and that set Kev off, on a re-occuring topic.
You, my friend are adding 1 and zero to make four, = wide wide high and far from correct.

He absolutely was.

But it was well beyond “constructive criticism” and I felt he was well within his rights to respond as he did.

Golding reminded me of Kort . Far and away a better footballer than those around him. Albeit at 2 levels lower

Good win but hard to judge. Last week we were well beaten by the best side we’ve see this season. Today we beat the worst team. Wonder if Kev played the likes of Bridge, Husin and Miley to somehow kick start their season. Any team he put out today should have won as Ebbsfleet were so poor. Miley impressed and looked back to his best, Husin showed signs of the old Noor and Bridge seemed more direct but once again his final ball was lacking at times. No idea why Morton didn’t start as he has been our best midfielder this past few months but don’t know how you fit him and Miley in to the team and clearly Miley like Bridge and Husin seem to be Kev favourites. We started well and git the deserved goal. There after we huffed and puffed and it took a brilliant goal from Bim to stretch the lead. Second half an excellent goal by Bim set up by the excellent Kendall and a well taken Gus goal sealed the win. Disappointed we didn’t push on for more but the game was won and over after the 3rd and 4th goals went in. Stand outs today were the impressive Golding, hard working Kendall and the goal scoring Bim.

For a crowd of 8000+ the atmosphere was dire. Something is missing at the moment. Some stayed in W block some moved to the NB. It just didn’t work. My son went in the NB and had to pay £10 to do so which is scandalous for a season card holder. He said it was **** with only about 20 of them singing and many sitting down. The chaos in the car park before and after the game to accommodate 150 away fans was laughable. If they are going to persist with this situation better solutions need to be found.

Anyway 3 points are 3 points and on to Braintree for a much tougher but equally winnable game. A decent result then will maybe just start to show signs of improvement

I think its been well stated where i stand ,and im reserving judgement for the foreseeable future as i expect us to defeat Braintree and Southport, anything less wouldnt be good for Maher , Halifax will be our next difficult assignment ,but i do expect a win there also as its at RH. Also will be interesting to see what occurs during the January transfer window.

Great result with a much improved performance yesterday.
I don’t mind admitting that I was one of the nine mutinous supporters that voted to lose.
It’s not that I want us to lose, but we have been fairly dire of late.
Let’s hope that this win will boost our confidence and we go on a long run now.

Firstly I really don’t understand this need to one up people. So what if people slagged off the line up, predicted us to lose! This need to point it out and make a big deal about it is just weird! People get things wrong, some are glass half full, some are glass half empty. Some will no matter what the game will want us to lose because they like the drama or want it as an excuse to have a dig at Maher (I really hope this isn’t the case but sometimes seems like it). At the end of the day it’s about opinions and discussion, it would be ****ing boring if we all went home win. And then in this thread everyone said “we won and everyone played excellent”.

Anyway! I didn’t post my initial thoughts on the line up, I had us down as a 3-0 win. However when I saw the line up I was gutted, how can Miley, Bridge and Husin start when they’ve been **** were my words to some friends.

How wrong I was proven on that and great to see, whenever I predict **** or say I think we need Maher out etc. I want nothing more than to be proved wrong.

I thought Miley was like the Miley of old, the true Rolls Royce player we all couldn’t believe has never played at a level higher than National League. He was everywhere, even when Golding went on his trundles forward there was Cav slipping in to cover his place. He made some exceptional tackles! That is the Miley we all fell in love with and I hope he’s back to stay!

Husin was assured and played well, even had a shot from distance which had appeared to be coached out of him. The odd wayward pass we’ve come accustomed too, but thought he had a solid game.

Bridge probably had the quietest of the 3 I moaned about in the line up. But seemed like one of his better performances this season (although not hard). He could’ve had a goal and put in some much better corners. Thought he had a decent game and hopefully we see the return on the Bridge who was excellent for us.

Golding, what a player he is. Assured at the back, confident on the ball and not afraid to get forward. He plays like Lopata did and certainly fits into that Kensdale role perfectly. My only one criticism and I’ll put it down to it was his first start, could’ve been a bit more vocal but he didn’t have much to worry about as Ebbsfleet offered very little.

Kendall, another star! Can see why Kev has been desperate to bring him in. He was a nuisance and really deserved a goal! He didn’t stop running the whole time he was on the pitch. As others have said him and Pepple have to start every game as a partnership! It just works.

Pepple, I feel this guy is about to break our hearts. Anyone watching him from Luton will be discussing getting him to play at a higher level. Seems pointless them having a player who is playing National League when he is clearly very good at this level. I would be very surprised if we see him in a Southend shirt at the end of Jan. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s gone before Braintree. I really hope not and hope the club are trying to lock the loan in or get a deal to sign him. He’s not only a class player but a top class guy! Born on the same day as Jesus Christ, says it all!

There wasn’t anyone who played badly really, all played well. I think the game went flat after the front two came off. Totally understand the logic behind it, thought it would be a good chance for Bonne to get a goal and I really hoped he would.

Ebbsfleet were absolutely dreadful, which I do find strange as they have some pretty decent players on paper. However, I’m putting it all down to Josh Wright because I don’t like him. Awful player and awful manager by the looks of it!

I’m not sure if Ebbsfleet flattered us or we were genuinely decent. The next few fixtures will be telling of that and we will have a tough one against Braintree who will be high on confidence. I am still of the opinion that anything other than 6 points from these 2 games is a complete failure and I stick by that. Same team to start against Braintree and I think we might get another good result 🤞🏻
Good post @Ricey, and your comments on our stand out players are reflective of my views. You're absolutely right on not calling out those that consistently predict bad things for, and from the team, but sometimes it makes me feel that they are only happy when they do. Childish on my part, and I'll not be doing it again. I'd rather our results dictate our state of mind in future.

North bank to the West stand.. "we've got your burger bar, we've got your burger bar"
Some great banter today. Just beautiful hearing "We're the North Bank of Roots Hall", it's been far too many years.
Atmosphere was suprisingly good, i noticed when we were singing Bim's song at the end of the game in the North bank, it sounded pretty loud out on the pitch from the social media girl's recordings. Now if all the Blue Voice emigrated to the North bank that would be quite a sound.
You could tell the Westanders were jealous, wishing they'd moved today ;)
I don't think we'll see too many families continue in the North bank, the scene was set at the ko with Col U on a String and some of the chants continued that fruity flavour. I do think though that our drummer should be more behind the goal, for a more traditional Southend PAK feel. Then families could take up the seats going around the corner. Getting out of the ground was so much quicker too, we didnt hear Kevin's post match until i pulled up on my drive in Wickford. Bloomin handy for midweek games with work in mind next day.

Thank you @Shrimp and two veg. This is the post I’ve been waiting for!
I couldn’t make it down yesterday and when I saw the NB occupied with Southend fans on the screen, well, it felt amazing!
I was so envious. It’s great to hear that some old songs were sang and the drummer was there too.
I hope you’re right in that the rest of TBV transfer to the NB. I certainly will be there on the 11th (if it’s open)
Standing and singing in the NB will surly create a good atmosphere for the team.
What a result yesterday. Just what we needed!!

A comfortable afternoon as you can get. Ebbsfleet are certainties for relegation, very passive and accepting of their fate. The despair of our group when seeing the team news and Mather’s 3 sons playing Miley, Husin and Bridge, quickly dissipated with the ease of the victory. Crowther’s omission for the stronger Golding was the right call and Kendall’s full debut was impressive. Morton and to a lesser extent KAF must wonder what they need to do to start. Having said all that the space afforded by Ebbsfleet allowed Miley to have his best game of the season. Nobody had a bad game, Golding was impervious at the back and Kendall works so hard up front. He does not give defenders any rest like an annoying fly buzzing around your hesd. But once again Pepple showed his value and what can happen when you have a shot. He must be our best loanee forward since Assombalonga and again is my MOTM.

CAN 7
Taylor 7
Golding 8
Ralph 7.5
GSM 7.5
Coker 7.5
Miley 8
Husin 6.5
Bridge 7
Pepple 8.5 MOTM
Kendall 8

Bonne 6
KAF 6
Walker 6
Morton 6
Gubbins 5.5

The game petered out with the substitutions at 4-0. This would probably justify Mather’s starting eleven and there was a noticeable drop in intensity. Please get Golding’s loan extended, I believe it was one month which must end in next week or so. A pleasing victory and team performance but an easier 3 points you will not get all season. UTB

You’re wrong. The occurrence people are picking up on is directly after the second goal. It was because multiple fans in the East Greens bemoaned us passing all the way to the defence when we were in a good position to shoot, and then the ball went forward to Pepple and he scored.

Kev was mimicking those fans, and went on an angry rant. Even Currie was watching him thinking he’d lost it! Then he stormed down the tunnel for half time. He looked pretty angry every time we scored actually, as if each time he felt he’d proved the same point. Hopefully yesterday will have relived a bit of pressure, as watching him on the touchline recently he’s looked like he’s about to explode most of the time.

Great stuff Grim, i had shivers down my spine just walking into the stand.
I'll put it in the other thread.

Those who like being entertained will feel that we could have gone on and notched a couple more if we’d either added another forward to really dig the knife in but those who like a more tactical game would have seen the sense of killing the game off in the 72 minute by bringing Bonne and Walker on to give them both minutes.

Nice to see the ball hitting the net at home again though and seeing body’s back in the NB.

8,400 outstanding 👏👏👏👏.

Bit pathetic really.
