Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 4-0 Ebbsfleet

People were hungry with no decent burgers on offer, singing was never an option.šŸ˜‰
North bank to the West stand.. "we've got your burger bar, we've got your burger bar"
Some great banter today. Just beautiful hearing "We're the North Bank of Roots Hall", it's been far too many years.
Atmosphere was suprisingly good, i noticed when we were singing Bim's song at the end of the game in the North bank, it sounded pretty loud out on the pitch from the social media girl's recordings. Now if all the Blue Voice emigrated to the North bank that would be quite a sound.
You could tell the Westanders were jealous, wishing they'd moved today ;)
I don't think we'll see too many families continue in the North bank, the scene was set at the ko with Col U on a String and some of the chants continued that fruity flavour. I do think though that our drummer should be more behind the goal, for a more traditional Southend PAK feel. Then families could take up the seats going around the corner. Getting out of the ground was so much quicker too, we didnt hear Kevin's post match until i pulled up on my drive in Wickford. Bloomin handy for midweek games with work in mind next day.

Didn't quite understand Kev giving it to some of our own fans after the 2nd goal, not sure if anyone else saw that.

Makes you wonder whether his position is under more scrutiny than we think?

There is a guy who sits in the front just behind where they stand pitch side who often has a shout out about how they are playing so Kevin can hear him criticising players throughout the game

He did it once or twice as a player if I recall. Sometimes you have to tell these ungrateful bellends what they need to be told. As theyā€™d have been giving him pelters in the run up to his response, Iā€™m sure theyā€™d have been gracious enough to take on what he gave them back.

If that's true, why not call them out post-game in the presser and say you think you silenced a few critics with the result. Just my opinion on how to handle it.

I wonder if KM thought here was a chance for Bonne to finally score and boost Walker's confidence while at it?
The trouble was they came on to join a tired team with the hard yards already behind them.
I think KAF's cross was about the only real Bonne chance.
On one occasion Bonne did really well to win and control a header, moved into the box at a great position on the corner of the 6 yard box and Gus played his cross 2 years behind him.

Firstly I really donā€™t understand this need to one up people. So what if people slagged off the line up, predicted us to lose! This need to point it out and make a big deal about it is just weird! People get things wrong, some are glass half full, some are glass half empty. Some will no matter what the game will want us to lose because they like the drama or want it as an excuse to have a dig at Maher (I really hope this isnā€™t the case but sometimes seems like it). At the end of the day itā€™s about opinions and discussion, it would be ****ing boring if we all went home win. And then in this thread everyone said ā€œwe won and everyone played excellentā€.

Anyway! I didnā€™t post my initial thoughts on the line up, I had us down as a 3-0 win. However when I saw the line up I was gutted, how can Miley, Bridge and Husin start when theyā€™ve been **** were my words to some friends.

How wrong I was proven on that and great to see, whenever I predict **** or say I think we need Maher out etc. I want nothing more than to be proved wrong.

I thought Miley was like the Miley of old, the true Rolls Royce player we all couldnā€™t believe has never played at a level higher than National League. He was everywhere, even when Golding went on his trundles forward there was Cav slipping in to cover his place. He made some exceptional tackles! That is the Miley we all fell in love with and I hope heā€™s back to stay!

Husin was assured and played well, even had a shot from distance which had appeared to be coached out of him. The odd wayward pass weā€™ve come accustomed too, but thought he had a solid game.

Bridge probably had the quietest of the 3 I moaned about in the line up. But seemed like one of his better performances this season (although not hard). He couldā€™ve had a goal and put in some much better corners. Thought he had a decent game and hopefully we see the return on the Bridge who was excellent for us.

Golding, what a player he is. Assured at the back, confident on the ball and not afraid to get forward. He plays like Lopata did and certainly fits into that Kensdale role perfectly. My only one criticism and Iā€™ll put it down to it was his first start, couldā€™ve been a bit more vocal but he didnā€™t have much to worry about as Ebbsfleet offered very little.

Kendall, another star! Can see why Kev has been desperate to bring him in. He was a nuisance and really deserved a goal! He didnā€™t stop running the whole time he was on the pitch. As others have said him and Pepple have to start every game as a partnership! It just works.

Pepple, I feel this guy is about to break our hearts. Anyone watching him from Luton will be discussing getting him to play at a higher level. Seems pointless them having a player who is playing National League when he is clearly very good at this level. I would be very surprised if we see him in a Southend shirt at the end of Jan. I wouldnā€™t be surprised if heā€™s gone before Braintree. I really hope not and hope the club are trying to lock the loan in or get a deal to sign him. Heā€™s not only a class player but a top class guy! Born on the same day as Jesus Christ, says it all!

There wasnā€™t anyone who played badly really, all played well. I think the game went flat after the front two came off. Totally understand the logic behind it, thought it would be a good chance for Bonne to get a goal and I really hoped he would.

Ebbsfleet were absolutely dreadful, which I do find strange as they have some pretty decent players on paper. However, Iā€™m putting it all down to Josh Wright because I donā€™t like him. Awful player and awful manager by the looks of it!

Iā€™m not sure if Ebbsfleet flattered us or we were genuinely decent. The next few fixtures will be telling of that and we will have a tough one against Braintree who will be high on confidence. I am still of the opinion that anything other than 6 points from these 2 games is a complete failure and I stick by that. Same team to start against Braintree and I think we might get another good result šŸ¤žšŸ»

I'd agree, but I guess we're not the ones in his position hearing them.
Of course, but not the first time he's had a nibble and end of the day those people want a reaction. Probably not easy to keep your head when things haven't been going our way though.

I'd much prefer Kev continued silencing those critics (including myself to an extent) by delivering a much improved 2nd half of the season!

Canā€™t disagree really mate. Maybe itā€™s just tough to hear pond-life shouting abuse after everything heā€™s given for the cause. Donā€™t think anyone would pretend Kevin is a saint anyway. Guess heā€™s just not the type to just suck that **** up.

If heā€™s sitting at home right now with a drink, heā€™d probably also be agreeing with you.

He wasn't and this is a good example of how crap gets spread.
Ralph had been booked for his first foul, where as the c/backs of Ebbsfleet had got away with many fouls on, especially, Bim. A shout was made about the ref's inconsistency and that set Kev off, on a re-occuring topic.
You, my friend are adding 1 and zero to make four, = wide wide high and far from correct.

Looked to me like whatever exchange there was happened with a fan, but I don't sit close enough to hear what was actually said, as I'm up in the East Black. Were you closer to the technical area then?
