Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 3-4 Charlton Athletic

I haven’t heard anyone slag off Collin at any matches.

Hopefully that will remain the case, and if there has been then that is disappointing and unacceptable.

However, people are totally entitled to having an opinion and sharing it in a Supporters Website forum.

You certainly don’t sit in the East Yellows then.

Collin has been getting plenty of stick at Roots Hall. There was a lot coming from people after the fourth on Saturday. I just hope he didn’t hear any of it.

Actually I am and wear hearing aids.

However, where I sit I have not heard Colin get any abuse.

My question to those of you who do hear it is why don’t you challenge the morons when they shout it ?

There’s no place for them at any ground.
I verbalise my support.for the team, but I value my teeth so don’t directly berate fellow fans who think it’s right to bemoan a lad trying his best as they aren’t likely to take it overly well.

Save your breath mate, these knuckle draggers are not going to listen.
There must have been pyscho studies in the past on football crowds that have recognised the minority who want a blame figure and hunt them at games. It is an extension of the bully culture and as odious.

IMO, Collin contributed to conseeding the goal with a poor decision to come out, but putting it into perspective, he's a young lad still learning the game, and some errors are expected, what will contribute to him becoming a better player in the long run. He's not a seasoned pro that's expected to be perfect at this stage. Reiterating, he contributed, which means there were others at fault, namely Harry Taylor, who despite having an excellent game, almost got himself sent off earlier with another error. Not that he should be hounded for a mistake, but were others directing the same anger towards him as the were Collin? It's not abuse to voice that Collin made an error, it's part of his learning, but to hound him out aggressively is unacceptable. I do feel some fans are making him a scapegoat when things go wrong and it's really unwarranted. I can confirm the players were in good spirits when they left, but Collin was incredibly visibly upset. Whether that's because of something said in the changing rooms or something he heard from the stands, I don't know. Either way, people should be constructive in assessing his performances, never personal.

Spot on @Target man , it is going to be hard and I am sure he will get his mojo back. What I want to hear more of is shouting commands from him, telling the defenders the ball is his, he is getting out for it, a big loud "mine" etc.
GK is a lonely position in a team game and the defenders can do their bit too in chatter and calls; something Lapata was very good at but not so much our current CBs.

Indeed. Collin was a bit over eager, maybe on edge during that extra time. He started to come out and was wrong footed to follow the poor header from Taylor. Players can’t hide from criticism though, they have to understand when and why they make mistakes so they can work on it. There will always be groans and snide remarks from the home fans so this is unfortunately something he will have to get used to with experience - he will make more mistakes. It does look like Kev is very frustrated with him at the moment, which I hope doesn’t spill into proper feedback on his performance.

He’s a good young keeper and will come good again - some of the saves he has made I have never seen the like of to be honest - but he does need a break and chance to get mentally back in place.

I could hear him from the south upper instructing defenders to push out. I don't want him to shout "mine" - isn't that a free kick offence?

He's very vocal in away games I've noticed but seems quiet at Roots Hall unless those in the South or North ends of the East and West can hear him.

Collin has been a mainstay in goal for the past 2 seasons coming in for the injured Steve Arnold in the 22/23 season. Last season he kept 11 or 12 clean sheets in the 33 games he played in. He had largely a settled defence in front of him. This season I've lost coubt of the number of different personal at the back.

He turned 21 in August yet has over 70 games under his belt. Something that may be missed by some as he has been in goal for the best part of the last 2 seasons.

BBC look east just called Kettering beating Northampton a "giant killing" 🤣
In fairness there are four divisions separating the sides - it's the same gap as though a NL side beat a PL team (I get the difference in quality isn't as great).

Great leap from Ranger for the winner. God he was good for us, such a shame his off the field life choices ruined it for him.

Taken my time to get on here but man what a game that was. Yeah it sucks we lost but for pure entertainment value it was up there with one of the best games I've seen live. If we can put out that performance week in week out surely we're out of the NL soon... it was a shame to go out the way we did and I get the criticism towards Collin, but the goalkeeper is always going to be a scapegoat in those situations. He's been remarkable in the past and I hope we can get behind him and he improves.

Nope. Nothing in the Laws of the Game that says you can't say that. You just can't say anything like that, or leave it, if you're deliberately trying to put an opponent off. Hard to prove, either way
