A very professional, committed performance to get the job done. It just shows that when you have 6/7 players giving MOTM displays how much more comfortable the victory can be for all. No reason to sit back and hope LCP can find that bit of magic when all can contribute on the front foot. Having said that there was a spell towards the end of the first half when we did retreat and Wealdstone had their best spell. Thankfully half time came and we came out second half and trampled all over them, no doubt KM had words. Wealdstone unfortunately do not appear to have the necessary to stay up, they may well beat Halifax at home next week, however will still go down as Dagenham now on a roll. As for us, same team next week please with more than capable hungry subs waiting to come on and make an impact. What a difference having a strong bench.

What a game that was, most entertained I've been at Roots Hall this season, made all the more enjoyable as our 11 year old grandson has been coming along with us the last few games and now seems to be hooked as well! He knew all the stats of the teams around us and result implications, and of those in the leagues below. He loved it yesterday!
Big shout out to my flag bearers yesterday, three of them were due to do it on Boxing Day, but living down in Dorset got so caught up in traffic that they arrived about 20 minutes after kick off and missed out - yesterday, they'd left at 8am to make sure they were there in time, and they did a great job.
Not sure I agreed with the MOTM decision, I thought Goodliffe, Taylor and Coker were all absolutely outstanding. Goodliffe is starting to look like a more complete Kensdale, and would definitely fill that hole if we can't agree terms on Golding, should he wish to stay at the south end of the A12.
All round, as dominant a performance from the Blues as you're likely to see - every one of them working hard and doing their bit. Hopper and Bridge have been much criticised on here but my goodness, they both worked their proverbial socks off....Hops desperately unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions.
Game plan looked solid. I was surprised Cav didn't start, but Husin showed that he is more than capable of covering that role - and picked up a yellow card to further endorse that! Spoke to Morts before the match in the dugout, he hopes to be back for next weekend, ankle swelled up considerably after the Braintree match so resting it as a precautionary measure. KAF grew into the game, he was quietish to begin with but came to life more as it went on, great energy throughout. Coker was the puppet master, pulling all the strings, decent corners and free kicks as well.
Defensively as sound as you can get, Reid was well marshalled by all three of the central defenders. Nathan Ralph's ability to leap and win headers continues to astound me - so dominant. Taylor and Goodliffe, as already said, were immense. Gus quieter and more industrious defensively than he usually is, but still showed that will and energy to get forwards. Hayes little to do, but when called upon, he was solid.
Which leaves Charley Kendall. This young man, when fully fit, is going to be a great player. You can really see why we were tracking him and why we went against the new data system to secure him. There's a really exciting young talent in there, and hopefully he'll become truly worthy of the duh, duh, duh, DUH chant.
Subs all came on and played their part. Walker seems more dogged and determined, showed a lot of strength, and I'm glad to see Bonne winning more fans over every week.

Sutton, Braintree and Solihull produces 2 points and 1 goal then in the 44th and 45th games of the season we win by 3 clear goals or more for the first and second times this season, 2 wins and 2 clean sheets. Poor opposition but we’ve tripped up more than once against similar. With the collapse of other teams around the play offs it would have made for a docu series to beat Wrexhams.

What a great day yesterday was. Like RHB and many others on SZ I had been excitedly looking forward to Saturday but also rather nervous too. At 3pm I watched the Boston v Gateshead game on the stream. It was vital that Gateshead didn't win and after 10 minutes Boston were ahead, but Gateshead equalised six minutes later. In the 35th minute Boston went 2-1 up. In the second half Gateshead dominated possession and attacked in waves. A nail biting final few minutes saw Boston hold on and preserve their National League status - a stunning achievement by Graham Coughlan and his players.
That great result meant that even if we lost to Wealdstone (which I feared we might, I've been watching this club for over 60 years) we could still make the play offs by winning at Gateshead next Monday so this lowered the stress and the blood pressure a little.
Kick off at 5.30pm for my second streamed game of the day. And what a game! Just like Boston we were 1-0 up within 10 minutes as we totally dominated a Wealdstone team who looked overawed by the size of the crowd, the noise, the TV, and the speed and skill of Southend United. We created a series of half chances and a couple of genuine ones but we couldn't get that second goal. In the last ten minutes of the half Wealdstone came more into the game. Uh-oh..... this is a familiar pattern this season.... a bad feeling was surfacing....
But after half time we surged forward again and Wealdstone had no answers. They defended desperately but it was clear that they had little attacking threat other than hitting the woodwork once. We won 3-0. It could easily have been 6-1.
The Wealdstone manager looked as shell shocked as his players, but he was brutally honest in his post match interview: "Southend were better than us in every facet of the game." We were Neil. We bloody well were!
Splendid.

Proper solid performance yesterday. All those around us were united in joy and happiness, which was lovely to see. Really well taken goal by Kendall, but everyone played their part didn’t they. Booked up a stay in Newcastle weeks ago just incase we were in with a chance. So glad that chance has materialised. Finding it hard to stay calm! UTB

So now on to Gateshead, I’m sure the fantastic support we have will continue to charge the players and spur them on. We hopefully have now turned a corner and perhaps the zone will be a kinder place for all posters to comment.
