Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 3-0 Wealdstone

It was an extremly good performance but let's not forget how poor Wealstone were :They never really looked like scoring at all.Had to leave before that third goal to catch the excellent guitar show show at the Palace theatre.Someting i don't normally do but the match was obviously won.
Don’t you feel that maybe Wealdstone looking poor was partly our doing?

Plenty of posters who jump on a draw or defeat totally absent from this and other game winning threads. Shows their desire to be right trumps the desire for Maher to succeed.
It's always been like that regardless of manager. It's the nature of a fans forum.

For those that asked about Ralph's substitution, the Echo report says this:

SOUTHEND United skipper Nathan Ralph was forced off towards the end of Saturday's 3-0 win against Wealdstone after suffering a dead leg.

Ralph was replaced by Joe Gubbins in the dying minutes at Roots Hall. But Blues boss Kevin Maher is hopeful the defender will soon be back in action.

"He got a bit of a dead leg," explained Maher. "When you slow down a bit they can tighten up and we didn't want to take any risks.

"Hopefully he's OK."

Wealdstone were definitely up for it. They started with far greater intensity than they showed at any stage in the reverse fixture and the first five minutes was probably their best spell of the game. But we adjusted to it, got on top and took the lead and didn’t look like letting go as our superior ability and fitness told.

Don’t underestimate how demoralising it is to be given the run around by a superior team. I think it’s to their credit that they didn’t fold (the third goal aside) as we had them properly under the cosh at times.

I was thinking the same about how conspicuous they are by their absence. Very sad (in a pathetic sense).
Play well get plaudits, play meh and get stick. That's how I see it, like many others. Best game of the season for me yesterday, on the pitch and the atmos in the crowd.
Days like yesterday, make up for it all.
Games will get harder from now on. UTB

Husin preferred to Miley again, seems Cav has slipped down the pecking order for defensive midfield behind Noor and Morts. Just wonder wether Cav might move on in the summer. Understand he's based a distance away and might want something closer to home, particularly if he's no longer an automatic starter.
Nope, he's in Brentwood. He's not got settled after injuries and recurrence of a previous injury this season. I expect him to be back firing on all cylinders and being the Cav we all know and love when next season comes around.

On the Noor v Miley debate.
The only dept Miley is better than Noor is tackling (maybe)
In terms of passing, technical ability etc its Noor all day. Also Noor showed great energy yesterday...was everywhere.
I'd disagree, Noor can be very erratic and we've certainly seen him at his least effective many times this season. He's been good in this role but it's not his best position.

He's certainly been unlucky with injuries this season, and not really had the opportunity to get match fit since recovering from the last one.

Massively enjoyed that one, we played so so well especially the first 30 minutes. Could have definitely been more goals what with that awesome overhead attempt by KAF and there was a crossbar later on I think. Really hope we can attack with the same mentality against Gatehead. I mean, if KM was ever going to instruct to sit back and take the draw, I guess that's the game to do it, but I hope that's not the case. Win again and the confidence going into the playoffs will be immense.

Is it a forgone conclusion that playoff games are away, are they somewhere neutral? I'm not really clued up on it. Either way, Wembley is close enough (physically, and almost mentally)

Thoroughly enjoyable game to go to. Looked like every one of our players went into the game with a positive confident mindset and although there were a couple of nervous looking headers\ passes early on, everyone composed themselves and gave a very good account of themselves.
TBV were more than a 12th man it seemed with amazing noise and have to give credit to the stones fans who gave great support to their team.
My MOM was Goodliffe who I thought made all the right decisions and gave an aggressive leading performance. I hadn't realized the extent of some of his previous injuries (as well as the face injury, a knee injury resulting in a 90 degree cast for a month!. Can't imagine how that must feel).
He looks like he's enjoying his football and for me is better for us than kensdale, due to being less easily muscled off the ball and a much bigger threat at our corners. There's apparently a very decent chance we'd make an offer to keep him next year either perm or loaned. If golding were to reappear next year which may still happen, Taylor, Ralph, Goodliffe, Golding, would offer very solid choices at the back. However, a hernia operation and lots of discussion need to take place first.
