Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 2-1 Aldershot Town

For anyone who didn't see the game and reads the match and post match thread you will get complete false picture of last night. As ORM says this forum has become full of ill informed trollop. Same few Maher haters, desperate to post one line of nonsense.
I thought exactly the same with Saturdays game. Sometimes I don't quite know what people expect.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the last couple of games at home for a change.

See, Gus knows. Ugly win .. yep that it was despite Riggers' glowing review .. can't say I enjoyed it as much as him but look, Aldershot was never going to be as easy as some seemed to think. For me we certainly did enough to win but there was a lot of poor passing (first half mainly, often from Starman) and Walker, how he missed that chance .. goodness knows .. have to say I found last Tues and Saturday a better watch. But 3 home games, 2 wins and a draw .. you'd have taken that .. even some of the doom & gloom merchants! All aboard what ..... the play off train? Why not, let's go for it.

And? We won a home game against a ****ty club we never beat, give people a couple of hours to enjoy that very rare thing. Football is not always about the league table.
Perhaps not but this season is very much about our non-promotion,Imo.Maybe you enjoy watching NL football ? Personally I don't.

I enjoyed the game from an entertainment point of view. So many different phases it was like a game of thirds.
Aldershots hit it long and hope.
Our dominant spell.
Aldershots playing decent football and our defending.
I wish we'd have a more settled side eachweek, but don't want to criticise as an ugly win is a win and we did play well for a long spell after half time.
On the plus side, apparently we've bought machine guinavere from the national lottery and Saturdays forwards will be chosen by set of balls 'B'.

Meanwhile the rest of us who actually attend had great evening. Some real good football from both sides and some excellent individual performances.

With news of a delayed KO and no sign of Aldershot messages. I managed another couple of pints. No wonder the Railway sold out of Guiness pre match. Turns out their coach driver decided to go North round the M25. Their players who came by car went South and made it on time.

We all wanted Parillon to start. He rewarded us with a great full debut and was easily my MOM. Golding and Bonne were not far behind and at last a decent Husin shift. One that went unnoticed but really impressed me was Hayes. He looks good in every aspect of keeping. By making it look easy a some on here think it is. Certainly better than the 6 some have given him.

Maher should get credit for his management of Parillon. Some of you wanted him to start first game. If he had made a few nervy mistakes the usual suspects would have been all over him before his career had started. After feeling his feet last night was just the right time. What great hour he had. Plus Kev was 100% correct in taking him off. If you don't understand why them pipe down.

When you watch the highlights you will see him play JB in of our first goal. The best bit is Bridges marker gets the wrong side because of the threat of Parillon going past his man. Thats what exciting players do. They create space for team mates by just being on the ball. Let alone running at defences.

As I say plenty of positivity in the far post at half time. Everyone I spoke to expected us to win second half. Two good goals and one disallowed for not very much should have been that. But full credit to Shots as they gave it a real go. Best strike of the night for their goal. Kev was booked because he was quite rightly angry that a foul was given in the build up to that corner.

A few nerves in the 90's but we see it out. At this stage win is all that matters. And no we don't have the right to roll over anyone. Out 0f 8 games last night 6 were decided by one goal and FGR had a 0-0. Its the business end of the season and to make the play-offs we will just have to suffer more wins in tight games.

So people embrace it and enjoy it.
Well, I thought the first half was frustrating with few real chances despite Walker's glaring miss and the Shots pacy breakaways. By contrast the second half was excellent entertainment with end to end play and lots of chances. Ralph, Husin, Golding and Bonne were stand outs for me, plus Hayes making some good saves. Three good goals and lots of incident including Hopper leaving his calling card on their keeper when the ball was already in the other half of the pitch and a goal disallowed for no obvious reason. Aldershot suddenly started playing really good football when they went 2-0 down. Barham looks to be a good player and was involved in most of their good moves. The last 10 minutes were really tense.

So it was a game of two halves Brian....

Aldersh*t is always a crap game, what do you all expect!
I can’t ever remember a good game against them and I have been a supporter for a very long time.

Having reviewed the match videos posted so far I'd like to withdraw my statement that Walkers effort was miss of the season that I made in the match thread. That I think remains with Kendall from a few games ago.

Apologies Mr Walker
