Can't win can they - when recruiting up and coming fans were crying out for some experience, players that had been there and done it rather than 'part-timers' that needed 6 months to get up to speed! As usual you need a mix, which is what we have.

As for your last statement that the club feels rotten again - I really don't know where to start
Because, me me me, now now now.

Absolutely this.

And yes, that 'rotten' comment is ridiculous.

The up and coming route doesn’t allways work does it. Waldron, Wood, Morton, Crowther? None of these I would class as a success. Although sometimes it does work, Kensdale, Cardwell, GSM, but the recent signings have all been poor compared to the initial ones of Kev’s tenure.

Maybe that’s why we have switched to signings like Moncur and Bonne?

Our recruitment this season has felt like it did when we was in League 2

Losing key players (for whatever reason) and replacing with players on a downward trajectory.

When Stan came in, he highlighted this issue and we started to recruit players on an upward trajectory and with a passion and drive to reach the highest level.

Why has this seemingly changed since the takeover?

The club feels rotten again, and I can't help but point a finger at some of the recruitment.
I don’t think this is the case. Most of our signings over the summer and up to now have been “on brand” i.e youngish players with some but not not lots of experience, players who could kick on (Gubbins, Wind, Pepple, KAF, Foran). Walker was a bit different but he was one of our top targets. The two departures from our post-Stan recruitment strategy are Moncur and Bonne, who most supporters were delighted with at the time. But by all accounts, these two were on or near the white board. Overall, I don’t think we’ve changed strategy really. The team is not gelling though, that much is true.

All very well having 'passion and drive' but basic ability, a football brain and team spirit are necessary as well. Recruitment never will be an exact science and finding the right blend, which is key is often more by luck than judgement. What should be avoided is a rigid adherence to one model or the other.

I can verify that, if Dave got cut he'd bleed blue, such is his devotion to SUFC. I've had the privilege of visiting his home, & if SUFC ever opened a 'hall of fame' they'd be hard pressed to compete with Dave's SUFC room.
My great mate Ray H. has a similar room in His house:athough he calls it the programme room ,most of the stuff there relates to SUFC.Must be an age thing . :Winking:

He must be as well?. If the management don't feel his up to scratch yet, then send him out on loan?. Only downside of that, is it's one less sub we can name on the subs bench?.
There are 5 words in your statement that should be left out so as to make much better sense :
If ……yet , then ….on loan.
I’ve said it before—ludicrous to keep him on and let Fonguck (and Powell) go .

Mate, 100%.
And hopefully this week of no travelling and no mid week game will allow that to re-start. The new lads will barely have been involved in a handful of training sessions and chats, talks, meetings, ploys, strategies etc which are so important AND which contributed to conceding the likes of goals 1 & 3 v The Heed.
The ingediates are there but the recipe needs working on and practicing.

Makes you wonder with Bonne, if he was on the board and available all summer as he was out of contract why we didn't either sign him earlier or get him training with us with a view to sign.

I'm no expert in other NL clubs recruitment processes but on the surface it seems that in the past couple of seasons the top clubs have got promoted by bringing in quality experienced players from the EFL. The likes of Mullin, Lee and others at Wrexham, Grigg at Chesterfield, and so on. Obviously these guys aren't cheap, and we're not shopping with that budget level, so I assume we're trying to get that EFL quality on a budget, hence 'risky' signings like Bonne and to an extent Moncur, both have had fitness issues. Its not Kev's fault that suddenly after most of the decent available & affordable talent has already gone elsewhere, we suddenly lose Cardwell, Kensdale, Miley, Walker & Taylor all at once. So its then a patch up job which is rarely successful. To say the club is rotten again is plain wrong, but it does feel that much as our financial woes are behind us thankfully, on the pitch our luck hasn't changed much. Sooner or later it has to!

If he was on the board then they were looking to sign him anyway.
As well players that might be being signed imminently I thought the board contained targets that are contingent on other things, IE., lose a player - who do we contact straight away in attempt to replace. Basically negating the need to commence a search if one of our players is unavailable, as that initial work has already been completed. It doesn't mean we've already attempted or are even going to sign the player.

That is as I see it too. Things change with signings, sellings, suspensions, injuries etc and having a firm "way to go" possibilities list ought to be a normal buisness plan.

Argh. Thank you for that and thanks to Nobbler for getting one of, if not, the greatest player to grace the hall.
The two together, appropriately enough, in The Blues Legends Lounge on Saturday...Legends both.

It's quite simple. This current team isn't good enough to finish top 7 in an average league.

If the board are serious about promotion then the recruitment of lower league players and over the hill cast offs won't cut it.

We need the better players of other teams in this league ala FGR for Cardwell etc.

We will get lucky with a few like GSM but several will take seasons to get better or won't make the grade.

The longer we stay in the national league the harder it is to break even and crowds will dwindle.

What next for The Heed? Will their departed manager go back to them and take a few back room persons and maybe a fewkey players? The ex Col ewe lad for example?
