Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 1-0 Oldham Athletic

Anyone got an image/ video of the Oldham penalty appeal? Looked absolutely nailed on from where I was
It was as nailed on as our one in the first half when Bonne’s header hit the defenders raised arm- in fact less nailed on as the latter arm was further away from the header.
The referee was consistently wrong- but consistent. Overall she had a very good game.

Difficult with the penalty decision, as other than the hand being a couple of foot higher and also a couple of foot nearer the ball, it was indentical to the one not given for us.

I think she couldn’t give one and not the other to be honest. To be honest VAR would have given both I think.
100% correct.

Fantastic response from Tuesday atmosphere was class throughout today Keenan turning into some prospect for sure . We defended very well throughout on what was a hard earned 3 points

It was a stone wall penalty.....but we deserved to get away with that one. It would have been a travesty if we were denied the full 3 points.

I wonder what difference it made having TBV in the North Bank to have that decision go our way? Empty north bank with just Oldham fans in it could have been much easier to give the decision for them.

Putting that slight doubt in the refs mind may be worth a few extra points each season.

After the Boston game on Tuesday I said in the post match thread I thought our season had ended that evening. I'm delighted to say I was wrong. I thought today's performance was very professional and the result well deserved. If we can show that level of commitment in our remaining matches who knows what might happen. KAF and LCP were outstanding, MB didn't stop running, JG had arguably his best game for us and I thought NH was much better today than of late. Kev made the right decision to bring Nathan and Cav on to thwart Oldham's threat going forward. All in all a good day to be a Shrimper.

Excellent response from Tuesday night. Not surprised as there was a massive over reaction after the Boston defeat. We were right at it today and got the all important goal and managed the first half well. Second half we withstood a lot of pressure and defended our area well with Hayes largely untroubled. Wouldn’t be bothered about playing this lot in the play offs. Thought the midfield controlled the game well with Morton, Husin and KAF linking well with KAF the standout of the three. Morton slightly under par but still played some lovely passes and cross field changes of play. Leon is something special and his ability to drop the shoulder and beat his man is a joy to watch and offered something different that we’ve not seen in a while. Credit to Gubbins and a Goodliffe for playing really well after a difficult Tuesday. Hopper and Bonne again worked hard without really being a threat in the final third although Bonne really should have scored with a header towards the end of the first half. Full credit to Kev for making the right subs at the right time. Cav, Coker, Ralph and Bridge all played their part in winning the game. Thought the ref did ok after some very poor showings in the past and we owe her a huge thanks for missing a blatant handball by Goodliffe which should have resulted in a penalty for them. But that would have been unfair on us based on the overall performance. Was surprised at how poor Oldham looked at times fir a team in the playoffs and with a very good away record. Lastly the crowd was superb tonight on all four sides. NB was rocking but also the west, south and east also joined in. We are off on holiday Friday so gutted to be missing the next three but home for Ebbsfleet away and hoping to be in the play offs by then. The dream is still on
