Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-3 Barnet

I believe with a different manager the players we have could well perform more effectively than they are.

In over 35 years of watching football I have never seen a manager unable to change a formation or make any tactical changes during the game until I saw Kevs teams.

The football has been dire almost his entire time here, it only got exciting during the backs to the wall days, players playing out of their position, but playing beyond themselves and chucking everything at it. The sad reality is COSU will stick with him and flip and flop for the whole of this season and I suspect probably the whole of next as we finish 15th and 13th over the next two seasons.

Most teams in this division can only dream of 6000 plus crowds and certainly none would have this level of support if they were playing the dung we are and being sat as lowly as we are. I don't buy the "lets give Kev a proper pre season, he couldn't get his targets" This has nothing to do with personnel, its just a pants management team with their clicky favourites, playing crab ball every game
Spot on , so true

Just got home after the game, absolute pile of pony. Maher team selection and set up is ridiculous, we started with no width at all and 3 central midfielders that are all holding players no flair at all. Husin has been a shadow of himself this season. How can we supply strikers with no width, then in his wisdom Maher takes Kendal off for Bonne. He has lost the fecking plot.

Oh and moncur fire and scores 2 in 3, clearly a better player than was being used by us
And that for me says it all about the current material tactics and one of the reasons why we are in the 2nd half of the table playing dire soul destroying football week in week out.

You can give Maher all the signings you like but it really is pointless when we set up with this constant sideways lackless football.

He must be the one and only person in the stadium (unless you are a Barnet fan/coach) who thought taking off Kendall for Bonne at 2-0 down was a good idea.

Kev walk now and you can still hold your head up high . But the longer it goes on the more toxic it’s gonna get. Can’t see any way back now

We've held 14th, ten points off the relegation places and have a minus goal difference again.

There was nothing I take from today's game to suggest there is a core of this squad are good enough to get us out of this division, upwards at least.

Walker put in a great level of effort and had his effort from inside the six-yard box ruled out. Apart from that we were woeful.

Once more there was a total lack of penetration and from corners our defence is made from tissue paper.

Kendall put in lots of effort with no end product. You could argue that it's hard for any forward here to thrive with a creative midfield behind them that is about as much use as a f art in a spacesuit.

It baffles me that this lack of creativity has been evident since the end of last season and even taking into account the late takeover and prolonged embargo, nothing, absolutely nothing has been done to address this.

Whether you blame the football department or COSU for not supporting them, something on the football side of the club at the moment doesn't make sense.

I'd be happier if COSU came out and said, we are not investing in the team this season, unless we have to, and just want to survive this season and want to build in the summer.

If that is the case then say it! We had a difficult summer, there is no denying that, but the 10 point gap between us and the relegation zone represents a possible 5 game period or slightly less before we could be possibly involved in a relegation scrap. If we won't recruit now, would we recruit then if needed then?

I don't think a prolonged silence on the subject of squad development helps anyone, The three amigos, COSU or the fanbase. It is the elephant in the room and needs dealing with. Standing still in football terms means going backwards, and we ARE going backwards this season. Braintree, for example signed three loanees this week and pulled off a win against a play off position holding side. Will they stay up? Who knows? But their fans can see a club, that after getting it wrong for the first half of the season, have made changes and have seen a positive reaction and have given themselves a chance. We seem to be static and incommunicative, that is not a good mix, especially if we start falling down the table.

Something needs to change and change quickly, even if it is just more transparent communication about developing the football side. Because if it doesn't gates of 7k will be a thing of the past imho.

If you get a new manager, you're still going to get limited results with this squad.
Yes, they usually win the first couple of games, and then what?
Bridge will still overplay; Husin will struggle; Gubbins will dish up gubbins; Miley will dive in; GSM will lack speed, and we'll await a first from Macauley...
I'm not sure the current squad would be empowered even it was Pep!
They. Are. Just. Not. Good. Enough.

well that was a struggle. There’s a lot of caveats and back ground to it with lack of signings but we was miles off today.

Not so long ago Maher did change it against FGR chasing the game and we secured a well earnt draw by giving it a go.

Not today. Still passing it around our own half at 2&3-0 down. When you’re 2-0 down already just throw everything at it. You’re losing anyway.

Kendall must be livid. Barely any service and then hooked at 60mins.

Think it might be a rocky road to the end of the season.

Im not Maher out but if it’s not working you do have to change it in game sometimes. He seems reluctant to.

Yet another serving of **** by Maher. Golding, Kendall and Walker the only ones to score above a 4/10 today… I can’t even be bothered to do ratings, much like most of that team couldn’t be bothered to compete today.

Barnet could have won 7-0 if they wanted to, but they knew they didn’t have to get out of second gear. Absolute nonsense.
Golding? Interesting one, he looks composed and mostly played ok - but, scored an OG and lost his man at 2 corners that they scored from - that cost Crowther his place in the squad
