A lot of comments on here about the back four, all plaid really well yesterday, but not one word about our ability to put the ball into the opposing net, as last week week huff and puff pass from side to side, eventually possibly we might get a cross in but nobody in the box, the midfield and forwards need to look at them selves we should have been two or three up at half time, the one error would have been glossed over, we need a midfield general, and a quick pacey experienced forward. Brown needs to understand this is a very different league to play neat football in.
Great post, exactly. lack of quality in front of goal will cost any team.
Hard call about playing nice football. The teams that have been promoted out of this league, play percentage football.
Long ball and live on second ball.PS was a believer in the theory. Not many nice football teams at this level get promoted.
So now we have great football at times, but can't buy a win.
I still believe we don't need wholesale changes, but tweaking with the odd additional player
All teams will have to score more than the opposition, so losing games will always highlight the defence, and the lack of goals and quality elsewhere gets over shadowed.
Poor Ben Coker last night was unfortunate and I believe has had a great start to the season. Some what surprised that there isn't a campaign on this site for a new left back.
Early days ladies and gentlemen, keep the faith

Really sorry to hear of your problems, something else strange last night was that there was a solitary Scunthorpe fan, wearing their shirt who had somehow got a ticket in the middle of the West Stand, and was sitting literally a couple of rows in front of us. I'm not sure if the constant texting he was doing was "HELP!" or if someone had stitched him up. He very soon tucked his shirt up under his jacket, but the silly sod never approached a steward for help, and just sat there the whole match, not even flinching when they scored! If that was you, wouldn't you have discreetly asked a steward if you could be taken to the away end?

Now to me that says a lot about the average Blues fan,i don't think for one minute he needed a steward,he was as safe as houses, well done us.UTB

In the first half we played neat if not always threatening football. This continued into the second until their goal, at which point confidence drained away. The weather was truly awful and helped Scunthorpe see the game out as we opted to lump the ball forward. That said Atkinson was IMO the stand out player. Hurst became more of an influence as the game wore on and could have won it for us towards the end. Their goal came from a mistake and the conditions was always likely to be the deciding influence. On several occasions, particularly in the first half, the ball was whipped across the box crying out for someone to tap in. We need a scruffy win soon, but a lack of pace out wide needs to be addressed urgently if this is to happen.

I see that Dagenham, courtesy of their two goal scoring midfielders, have gone above us in the league table, oh dear.

First game of the season for me and my son.
fiasco of getting in after collecting tickets
and being sent from turnstile to opposite side of ground and back, not forgetting queuing up for replacement tickets and finally getting in 20 minutes later put us in just the right mood to watch the game (now we were thouroghly soaked through)! The club certainly makes it easy to encourage support.

Ha!That rings a bell.Went to pick up a couple of East Reds tickets, which had been ordered by phone and paid for by c/c on the first day they became available.
Of course, the tickets weren't there at the ticket office, waiting for collection when we arrived.TBF,the (reasonably friendly but not very efficient) staff did print out the correct match tickets on the spot.Probably a good job I'd made a note of the seat numbers (and also had a c/c receipt with me).

If you pay peanuts you get monkeys, I suppose.

Sort it out.

Moment of the night though was in the first half when the ball came into the box, Prosser got the ball and I don't know if it was a sublime bit of skill or huge fluke but Prosser stood with the ball, moved to go one way, didn't go but stayed on the spot and all the Scunthorpe players dispersed leaving Prosser to calmly pass the ball out of defence. People constantly moan about Prosser and 'hoofing' but his passing to feet was excellent last night and I think only one hoof when he was sold short on a pass.

Agreed. It was interesting though, that he let Phillips attack all the high balls into the box first, sweeping behind him.Last season Phillips was sweeping up behind Cresswell,a role he's better suited too, I'd say.
Also Phillips will get crocked again pretty quickly,if he's always got to do most of the donkey work at the back.Cresswell is clearly going to be a huge miss for us this season.

I can't remember the last time we won when 'Tangled Up In Blue' was there.

Oi.Don't you start -I was getting stick for that on Friday night from a certain Shrimper.

For the record, we've lost the last three in a row that I've seen. And no I can't remember the last win either but it must have been the season before last.

At least 3 times last night Eastwood had a run at goal with a good chance to shoot and just passed the ball. I don't understand that.

The bit of "skill" in the box was more luck than judgement I think :)

Agreed though, his passing was much better than it has been and where I sit I dont notice the defenders so much second half but first half he played the ball on the ball to feet pretty much every time he could. I thought he was better than Phillips on Friday.

Until the goal we did ok, some of the football was of a much better standard than under Mr Sturrock.
I appreciate that Luke has made some improvements to his game and that the management are very involved in coaching out the soft floated left foot high balls from his game and also the previous stream of back to gk. Luke has also been getting closer to "his" attacker which is what MP is very good at.
The team selection is an individual choice by Mr Brown and I don't think he has confidence on any selection of midfielders or forwards...........the loss of Laird has hit the balance more than would be expected.
My gut feeling is not of panic from the four defeats as we are not that far short of being a reasonable side AND we need only a couple of players to make us play off contenders.
And a deflected goal, penalty, ref decision, stroke of luck etc WILL happen sometime soon.
 UTB!

Hmm. One derby win, a dismal defeat at Wembley, Marc Laird and losing at home to Morecambe or one derby loss, being top of the division above, Romaine Vincelot and beating the Ewes away. It's a toughie. :finger:

All you need now is a crowd to match the division you play in. :winking:

Only 4,092 crowd at Orient tonight. I know it's a Tuesday night but 6 straight wins and they get less than 4,000 home fans. Mind you we can laugh at their crowds but not at their results, 7 wins now.

700 or so up on our average Tuesday crowd last season. Better than them going the other way, I guess...

Did I hear aright on the local news that your lot are giving away up to 1500 FREE season tickets to 18 to 24 year olds? :stunned:

Correct, though only a few hundred of the lazy *******s have been turning up. Hopefully we might get a thousand of them through the gates by the time our Invincibles are going for their 45th consecutive league win of the campaign in May. :whistling:

Haha! Well, best wishes in the fight against the new Olympic park tennants, it's a great initiative if you can afford it :winking:

Well, that's the beauty of it - Matchroom are paying for the tickets, so it's going to count as a positive on the balance sheet when it comes to the 65% rule next season. Cheers for the best wishes over the OS, but everything has become so muddied that I'm not even sure what (or who) to be rooting for.

Good luck with the fight to move to the OS.

Though (for sentimental reasons) I'd much prefer you to stay at Brisbane Road.
