Southend to be approached

What you have to consider is what would you do. Every manager, player, coach etc should want to test themselves at the highest level possible, if they don't they should be looking at getting a different job. The next step for Tilly is the championship, at which club does he stand the best chance at reaching that league and staying there/moving up more still? Loyalty is different for an employee then for us, he could move to MK Dons adore there fans etc and form a bond with them, us were the unlucky ones stuck for life with the one club. However hand on heart there are better looking clubs with bigger, better assets but would you swap what you have now? I wouldn't, managers come and go your love for your club will never

Great Post,

One of the tv companys had a national survey,

1 in 6 men would change their partner/wife

Only 1 in 138 men would change their football club

sums it up really, football loyalty from fans is something that can never be matched :)

But last season, their average attendance was less than 9,500. It is not correct to say they have no local clubs to compete with - Luton Town and Northampton Town are very close by. Tottenham Hotspur won't be much further away from Milton Keynes than West Ham is from Roots Hall.

I don't know what the exact population figures are, but it is often quoted that there is an extremely large number (upwards of a million??) of people whose nearest football league club is Southend, I doubt the same can be said of Milton Keynes.

The trouble with a club like MK Dons is, with there being no history to the club, will the fans who have come from nowhere disappear just as quickly when things don't go quite so well on the pitch?

Tottenham as close to MK as Wet Spam is to us?!?!?
What bleedin map do you use? It's almost twice the distance.
Most people I know who go to watch the mongs do so because they have been priced out of watching their respective premiership clubs and they have realised that the lower leagues offers just as good entertainment. That coupled with a shiny new stadium and a good run of results and I think they actually have a bit of loyal following now.

As for Tilson going, I'd like to think he'd stick around but who would deny him the chance with another club. He may feel he's done all he can with us.

Whatever happens, the club will still be here, it may just need a new revolving door on the managers office after the last one seized up.

I don't know about Tilson but if it were me I would rather lop my co.ck off with a rusty blunt hacksaw than work for those thieving scumbags especially with that odious, long-haired c Unt Winkleman as a boss.

If he goes to them as YB says it would be horrible, worse than if he went to west scum.

But what about, if you got offered a job on double your money and a 4 year contract plus bonuses:)

No mention of Brush. I would think him and Tilson would go together if they did move to MK Dons. Maybe if in the very unilikely event of Tilson Leaving Ron could persuade Brush to take over as manager.

God, no. Brush is a good coach but a terrible manager - just ask any Orient fan.

I'm not overly concerned about this rumour. If it was a Championship club with a genuine pedigree then I think Tilly would be tempted but MK Dons, as ambitious as they are, would only be a sideways move at present.

Personally I can't see it happening, I recon no offence to Tilson but I think they would probably go for someone more like Ian Holloway before going for Tilson. Why mess about with trying to get someone who is at a club when they can have Ian Holloway in a flash and he is a quality manager.

If this was to go through I would want Holloway as manager because he is a great manager and would be an excellent manager for SUFC. He has a cracking personality too funny as hell. Paul Brush as manager NO THANKS. Orient fans moan about how shocking he was for them. As a no.2 fine! But would he follow Tilly to MK IF this rumour was to go ahead.

The trouble is that Tilly could stay loyal now but if you start the season badly and people get on his back he could be out of job stranded.

I understand what you're saying mate but Tilly is such a legend here with the fans due not only to his time as manager but also his many years as a player and fan it would take a HUGE amount for him to be sacked. Add to that the fact the Chairman loves him and Tilly will know that unlike anywhere else in the country he has by far the most job security here in comparison. To illustrate the point during our season in the Championship we were rock bottom and cut adrift. Each of the 3 or 4 sides above us (Leeds included) sacked their managers within a few weeks of each other whereas in that very same time we tied Tilly and Brush to new five-year contracts!!!

Martin Allen or Ian Holloway would do for me.

All this speculation, is this why Tilson has spent no money yet. He know's he'll go, and so does Ron.

The reason why Tilly hasn't spent any money yet is because you can only sign players on a free until the transfer window opens on the 1st July

Don't let mere facts and hard evidence stop people like TTK from spreading their doom and gloom HUTTON

I didn't say that Tottenham is as close to Milton Keynes as West Ham is to Southend, I said that it won't be much further, meaning that I recognised the distance was further, but not by much, certainly not almost double.

As the crow flies, Milton Keynes to Tottenham is approximately 40 miles and West Ham to Southend is approximately 30 miles. So, as I said, it is further, but not by much. According to the AA route planner, the journey from Stadium mk to White Hart Lane takes 1 hour 16 minutes, while the journey from Roots Hall to Upton Park takes 1 hour 2 minutes. Again, clearly not almost twice the distance.

Totally agree, but lets face it, something big aint gonna happen at this club realistically for the next 5 years.

Yeah the stadium might be built, but we still wont have the financial power to move ahead for some time, if ever. Only chance we have if is a millionaire business man came in and we did a Peterboro or Mk sytle surge, we could never give Tilly a £2 million transfer fund.

Cardiff have admitted they have to sell every year just to pay wages, ie Ramsey joining arsenal.

Time Tilly might not wanna waste, and the MK Dons job is an attractive prospect as much as i hate to say it, they could generate crowds of over 30,000 easily in the right circumstances, we would struggle to do that with the london clubs nicking our support.

And 750k for Tilly i reckon Ron would take it if he could bump that up to 1 million over the next year, who wouldnt in our position.

And that could just be the worst piece of prospective business in the history of SUFC.

Your back are you. Bet you would love it if Tilson leaves. Then when the results go badly under a new manager you would soon be on here calling for him to go.

Why would Tilly leave when SUFC will be in a similar place to MK in a couple of years with regard to the new stadium potentially bigger crowds and hopefully cash to spend ? Why go to a club in the same division, surely it would take a Championship club to lure him away?

They are not bigger, but the prospect of the place is. We are never gonna nick fans of the london clubs.
Yes we are. Its the only way forward. Its so expensive and time consuming to go to Premier football a lot of dads cant manage it. So they take their kids to Southend. The kids are the new supporters but it will take time.

You can actually see kids wearing the colours these days. Go back a few years and I reckon the sales of replica shirts was alomost none.
