The more I think about it, the more I am particularly disappointed in this firstly, for Scott Spencer, who really showed some passion and flair at the end of last season and was a player I was delighted to see sign on again for this season.

Even more disappointing is that young Paterson joined, stayed with us when just about every other rat was leaving the sinking ship. Turned down offers in the summer to get his games with us and it now seems that we've binned him as well.

The timing of this seems very strange. Why not tell them before the transfer window closed that they could go? Why wait until just about every other club has it's quota of signings, loans or perms and then tell them?

Thought there was a bit more loyalty about us than this.

Much like the crop of players we couldn't get rid of last season, I dare say that if someone had come in for them we'd have been willing to let them go...

Is there any difference between a youth loan and a normal loan? I presuming we are allowed to extend this loan to 93 days if we want?

Different quotas are allowed, IIRC. Foreign youth loans are deemed seperate to national youth loans, so this wouldn't affect our number of youth loans allowed.

Anyway not going to get caught up on all of that!

Looks like Cardiff really rate him, hope he absolutely smashes it!

(Cardiff's forum makes us all look like MENSA members!)

Are you not a member of MENSA then, Dave?? Wondered who the odd one out was........:smiles:

Gutted with this. I Cannot believe that Sturrock's 'find' is an 18 year old kid who hasn't played a first team game yet.

I am absolutely gutted for Spencer and Paterson - what have they done wrong? Not given the chance, but when played both looked lively and capable goals at this level. This has been brewing for some time, for Paterson to score two goals against Bristol City and then find himself on the bench behind Corr and Blair absolutely stinks.

How Blair Sturrock gets a game ahead of either Spencer or Paterson I will never know - I will say it, nepotism, the worse front line I have seen at Southend for a long, long time.

I hope both Screech and Pato find new homes, and a manager and club that want them, appreciate them and give them their opportunity and don't play donkey's in front of them!

Sad:(

If paterson or Spencer were currently good enough, they would be in the side. Paterson has looked really poor. Ok a couple of goals against bristol, but then Gordon conelly had a good half once.

Paterson doesn't look keen enough to score a goal and I've said it before, but I don't think spencer is good enough for even league 2, looks a conference level player, very much flatters to deceive.

Corr is in the side because he is a decent front man for this level, big, tough and can lead the line. Sturrock jr is in because he is the next best we have, plus he has qualities that most on here don't see, so it's pointless arguing it.

I'd suggest Blair will be benched now to allow corr and the new lad a run.

The time to comment on this new lad Jarvis is when we have seen him play a few games. Personally, I would rather go for these young types with potential than mess around with journeymen lower division so called strikers. If the lad has pace then that is a major asset (Theo Robinson, an example)
He may not be the answer but then he could be like Jermain Defoe when he went to Bournemouth on loan, lets wait and see.
Regarding Paterson and Spencer, I really feel that they have been dissapointing. Spencer looked good at Bristol Rovers when we played them last season but seems to be a headless chicken since and doesnt score in reserve team football. Paterson, may still come good but seems lightweight and does not appear to be a finisher.

Not utilising Spencer, Paterson and Crawford is a huge mistake, imho. We now have the unfit and useless Barry Corr, the compeltely ineffecutal Blair Sturrock and an 18 year old kid to get us promoted.

Give me a break.

Underwhelmed!

Corr is fit and top scorer. Blair is good with his back to goal.

If Spencer/Paterson were any good, they'd be busting their guts in the reserves and notching goals. Cannot recall the last time either of them scored in a reserve game.

I make PS right. If you aint good enough, then we'll move them on.

Don't want to act like 'I told you so' but Spencer scored in the reserve game against Luton I think, but apparently he was no good (I didn't go).
We saw that Spencer was good last season, he couldn't have done more...that was when he was played in his correct position.

Ah well! Brain is completely fried at the moment, but even so, not as if he is tearing it up in the reserves and giving Sturrock a real headache?

Respect your opinion though.

Corr is fit? Sorry were you at the game on Saturday? Corr hasn't been fit since he got here, he has chronic back problems. Blair is good with back to goal, yes I would agree, however anywhere within 25 yards of the goal and he goes to pieces.

You do not have to justify how good/bad these players are, they have already shown us they are compeltely ineffectual.

If this young kid turns out to be the next 'one' then I will doff my cap to Mr Sturrock.

However, alienating all the strikers at the club apart from a new kid, your son and your favourite player just doesn't seem right to me!

Whilst we'd all like a 'proven' scorer to come, the whole point of Jarvis coming in is due to his pace, something which not one of our striker possesses. I don't care if he's 18 or 28, he's got pace, which is what we need. So what if he's young like Paterson and Spencer. He has pace, they don't. Hence why he's come in even though they're fit and available. People appear to be missing the point.

Precisely... This isn't simply about replacing Paterson/Spencer, it's about bringing in a striker to add to our attack by bringing something else to the party. When we had the likes of Wayne Gray and James Walker here, we were forever searching for a suitable targetman to bring the best out of them. Now we're in the reverse position.

Okay, point taken, he has pace, something that is lacking, I agree.

On Saturday Corr's back goes, and Blair gets injured. PS has shafted himself by alienating the other strikers, that's the point I was trying to make.

Unless we now sign another good striker, I just can't see the reasoning?

I can't accept that Spencer isn't good enough, because he proved he was good enough for League 1 last year! It just winds me up really!

TBH, Spencer seemed promising last year, but I get the feeling he had a 'Jon Stead, Blackburn 2004 moment'.

Yep, Spencer scored against Luton, but it was tap in from 6 yards into a open net. Nothing to get excited about. I did say at the time, he was being played in the target-man-straight -down-the-middle role, which clearly didn't suit him. But really he was ineffective against Luton's reserves.
