Songs and Chants

My favourite is the one to the tune of “English Civil War”. The one that ends with “we all follow the Essex boys in blue”

Sea sea seasiders always gets the blood going when there's a touch of aggression in there. I see it a bit like our war call that one.

Ole oleeeeeee is a welcome addition

What happened to ohhh. ohhh. We are the southend boys. If you are a col u fan and so on

I'd like to hear a few of the oldies brought back tbh.

We're by far the greatest team, the world has ever seen.

Southend on sea, southend on sea, the longest pier you'll ever see

Build a bonfire build a bonfire.

A bit random, but one of my favourites as a kid was the Ronnie Whelan song.

He’s scouse, he’s scouse, he’s gunna rob your house, Ronnie Whelan, Ronnie Whelan.

Would that be hate speech these days? ****ed if I know, but it was quite catchy and easy to remember.

He’s from Afghanistan

And then a line which I think rather undersells the refugee experience of having to flee your home and apply for asylum in a foreign country and one he possibly may not appreciate fans glibly singing about given that he still has family back in Afghanistan living under their rule.
I agree with the second line. I’m not sure that’s the third line to be honest

I thought it was ‘he hates the Taliban’

I'm surprised that we haven't sung, "He's one of our own, Jack Bridge, he's one of our own."

Came though the youth system, loves the club, think he used to watch us as a youngster too. The journey of leaving and coming back, and it actually going well (they say never go back). It has all the ingredients to warrant the song.

Bridge …. Bridge will tear you apart again!

That actually sums up his season too, he’s playing so so good, so exciting on the ball too

I think to get a majority of supporters singing all together, as one, the chant needs to be very simple and possibly short, so that persons who don't stand near Block W, or blue voice away, can easily pick up the words and join in.

As testament to this thread, persons are asking for the words to chants, so they can join in the fun and celebrations.

Some people say that ROOTS HALL is a fortress and that teams don't like coming here to play, well if that is the case then we need a couple of simple chants that everyone from all stands can join in, when heard intilally from the west stand.

I stand around the block W area, and even i sometimes wonder what they are singing.

Glad this thread has got some action recently as I was gonna start one after attending the Barnet match the other night.

I’ve got a young child and can’t get to as many games as I did before right now so it’s inevitable that I’ll miss games where new songs start doing the rounds. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has this problem. A new chant comes around but I don’t know all the words.

For starters - love the Viva Callum Powell song but other than the obvious I don’t know the verses. There was also a second Lopata song (i.e not the one which just says his surname) sung by a small group of our fans the other night. Would be interested to know how that one goes?

Maybe the mods could make a sticky thread and we just add the lyrics to all of our songs as posts?
