Songs and Chants

Back in the off season, not long after we got relegated down here, I suggested...

SOUTHEND U GA GA

I'd sit under the Roots Hall lights
With my best friends on teenage nights
And everything I had to see
I got it from SUFC

You gave them all those playoff games
Those big cup nights against big names
You made 'em laugh, you made 'em cry
You made us feel like we could fly

So don't become some background noise
A backdrop for the girls and boys
Who watch the Prem, and know it all
And just complain that you're too small

You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Southend U (Southend U)

All we hear is planning permission
Winding up orders
Transfer embargos
All we hear is Southend U ga ga
Southend U blah blah
Southend U, what's new?
Southend U, someone still loves you

On iFollow, we watched the streams
On mobile phones and laptop screens
We hardly got to see our team
It made us feel like we could scream

Let's hope you never leave, old friend
Like all good things, on you we depend
So stick around, 'cause we might miss you
When we grow tired of all this visual

You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Southend U (Southend U)

All we hear is planning permission
Winding up orders
Transfer embargos
All we hear is Southend U ga ga
Southend U blah blah
Southend U, what's new?
Southend U, someone still loves you

You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Southend U (Southend U)

Some of the songs should become more gender neutral.

'we're the Southend boys making all the noise' is hardly friendly to our female and non binary supporters.
So while Putin is bombing Ukraine, that could be the start of WWIII, you are worried that our songs should become more friendly to our female and non binary fans!! This country is well and truly €¥[<€}

A blast from the early 70's, sung to the tune of Lee Marvin's 'Wandrin Star'
I was born under the North Bank star ( & repeat again )
Boots were made for kicking, guns were made to shoot
If you come up the North Bank, we're all put in the boot!

And for all those who are now of a 'mature' age, who can ever forget the chant to the tune of Jim Reeves 'Distant Drums?. If you know, you know!.

The best songs / chants are the most simple ones.
Ones that are not to complicated to sing or rember,
These are the ones, that will get the whole ground singing togther.
You only have to look around the different stands when we start singing SINCE I WAS YOUNG after a bit of excitement, you can see the 3 stands all singing and clapping in unison, and that is what makes ROOTS HALL ROCK.
So any new songs / chants want to be short and simple, that way everyone will know and remember the song and then all will join in.

And do they smell. Like ****ing hell
Those were the days my friend we took the Stretford end we took the Kop we took the Molineux, we took the Chelsea Shed, we left them all off dead, those were the days, those were the days my friend....

we aint got very good manners;
we fight with bottles and spanners;
wear 'Doc Martin' boots;
join the recruits;
side by side;

Ive always been partial to

"Lets go ****ing mental, lets go ****ing mental" la laa laa la, la laa laa la."

The new steve arnold one is great, need more like that, short n sweet.

in our southend homes in our southend homes
we speak with an accent exceedingly rare
with doc martin boots the exceedingly scare
in our southend homes

Need a new one for Kev, currie and benno.
Was thinking,
Currie to left of me,
Benno to the right
Stuck in the middle with king Kev?? Or something like that.

I remember the song that was created and sung to commemorate the FA Cup game vs Liverpool in '79

A day to remember. A day to recall.
The great Liverpool, The greatest of all.
They came to the Roots Hall in '79
They packed out our North Bank. Their singing was fine.
But Southend were ready and ready to ruck.
The great Liverpool got battered to F**k.

I personally didn't see any evidence of it. My father took care of myself and my twin brother on the night as i was only 12 at the time. However, it was a great song to sing to other teams fans in the 80's when I let lose to follow the Blues unchaperoned.

'Come and 'ave a go if you think you're hard enuf'
