Really?

So say he arrives early afternoon (the warmest part of the day) and the pitch just about looks playable. What happens when he goes out again for a check after the sun goes down and we are below freezing? By 7pm the pitch could well be unplayable again.

I can feel another Scunthorpe situation arising again.

Let's hope not.

If it's completely playable now and mid afternoon, he's hardly going to call it off on the strength of a weather forecast that currently predicts zero dropping to minus one later, is he? If it's barely playable, mid afternoon that is a different matter.

Any updates from those at the ground today? How's the clear up going, are people generally positive that it is game on tonight?

I notice that our 3 main rivals- Crawley, Cheltenham and Swindon- have had their matches postponed. Can only add to their fixture congestion.

Based on the the conditions of the last few days the ground has been hard as rock and the temperature has dropped significantly in the evening (when coincidentally we play). The local pavements have not been treated and i guess the club car park is likely to be more trecherous than normal as well. It's not just the players safety that needs to taken into consideration here, the fans too. I hope a representative from Rotherham is able to go to the ground and mutually come to a decision on whether it is worth it or not. I'm sure a local ref must be able to call this too.
To have absolutely no compasion for away supporters who travel 195 miles at great expense is appalling. We didn't like it when it happened to us at Accrington and Scunthorpe certainly didnt like it whe we shafted em last time.

Forecast is for 0 degree temps tonight. It could be the case of the pitch being frozen at kick off they must make a decision soon. Part of me wants the game to be on the other half wants it to be off and played at a time when it will be much warmer

Because they'd be on the M25 by then if not in a local hostelry. If it's called off at 5pm, they'd have every right to feel aggrieved in my eyes.

Games being called off late is one of the annoying realities of (lower league) football. They have every right to be annoyed, but not aggrieved. They've had fair warning about this game and the weather, and we've kept the OS updated. There is only so much that we can do. Everyone wants the game to happen, and so there's no point calling it off now seeing as the pitch is currently playable and the weather isn't likely to be too dramatic between now and 10pm.

Agreed - fairplay to SUFC this time, they (and the volunteers) have put in tremendous efforts to get the game on over the last couple of days. In addition by inspecting at 12.30 with the ref and both managers they've given every effort to making the right decision in good time before most fans will have set off (reading their message boards, they're leaving at 2.00).

If the weather deteriorates and the game is called off now, yes it will be annoying but not for the want of trying to get it on or to do the right thing by both sets of fans.

why? I think we're being perfectly sensible with this.

Indeed. The pitch is playable and they are monitoring it, they cant call the game off when theres a decent chance of it being played because of 30 Rotherham supporters.

They have had due warning the game is a risk and they have the opportunity not to come.

The sun is shining and its a beautiful day here in Southchurch. Lets get this game on a another 3 points towards our promotion push.
Lot of doom and gloom around today (must be the cold weather) for some reason but I'm feeling top of the world and another great night ahead down at the Hall.
