having spent the last 2 days down there shovelling snow dissappointed that people are saying just call it off. we have worked our arses off (which is very rare for me!) to give the game the best chance possible of being played. The pitch was in very good condition and very playable. The ref was more than happy, its only if managers start to try to put him off which I heard sturrock may have been. fingers crossed!

2.41 pm and GAME ON !!!

Referee Iain Williamson attended Roots Hall at 12.30pm this afternoon to have a look at the Roots Hall pitch ahead of tonight's match with Rotherham United.
The official examined the playing surface and at this stage he is happy for the match to go ahead.
He was joined by Southend United boss Paul Sturrock and Rotherham United chief Andy Scott.
Work continues to clear the last of the remaining snow from the perimeter track and ensure all spectator areas are safe.
Mr Williamson will report as normal at 5pm this evening but the match is current on.

Ok another inspection at 5 but nothing is going to change between now and 5 so lets get up for it.

i spent 3 hours today at roots hall clearing the snow and even managed to speak to the ref who was very impressed with the condition of the pitch (which by the way looks in great condition considering the recent weather) GAME ON!!! UTB

me to TimH9 and everyone did really well today - the pitch was in great condition , although less can be said of my back now!

Well done to all who grafted over the last few days. Hope the club gave you a freebie of some sort.

I wouldn't hope the gave them a freebie i would EXPECT them to do so, a package to the blues lounge with a meal would not be to much to offer them. The supporters that cleared the pitch have shown more commitment to the club than the players recently.WELL DONE.

After many years reading,at last my first post,so go easy on me for now! I went along yesterday and did a few hours clearing, got thanked for it and had a look round the changing rooms etc ( my daughter thought i was very sad ) but to me that was enough,i did it for the love of my team. Now i just hope everyones effort was worthwhile and we get 3 points.

Good man. Glad to have you posting.

it is my 45th birthday today so to all who have been out clearing the snow, thanks! fingers crossed that we do what we did the last time it was my birthday on a Friday which was thrash the opposition (as I recall QPR with a certain former SUFC keeper in goal). COME ON BLUEBOYS!!!!!!

The sun is shining and its a beautiful day here in Southchurch. Lets get this game on a another 3 points towards our promotion push.
Lot of doom and gloom around today (must be the cold weather) for some reason but I'm feeling top of the world and another great night ahead down at the Hall.

The Sun is not a good thing. We need cloud cover. Sun = clear sky = Suns warmth escapes overnight = ground freezes over.

Cloud Cover = Suns warmth contained in lower atmosphere = milder temperatures = no ground freeze.

It is already officially -0.5c here in Southend. Dropping at a rate of 1.3c an hour now the sun has gone.

Uh oh...it could be -3c or lower by Kick off if the skies stay clear.

EDIT: Make that -1.1c and dropping fast.
