thats whats happend with robinson! He has the same agent as trundle which means he knows what trundle earns. So when it comes to negoiating a new contract he knows what our limit is so he is pushing for what trundle earns. which is why i'd rather sell him than be held too ransom by one player.

Well I very much doubt we could afford the wages of either then. One of the reasons we've done so well is the fact our players want to play for the love of football and the club not for the money.

rather strange, especially as it would appear that we have had an offer of 150k for Robinson rejected - or is Tilly claiming that no such offer has been made

Echo says we made an offer of £150,000 which was rejected (weeks ago) and quotes Tilson saying that despite persistent rumours to the contrary we will not be signing Andy Robinson.

I never believe we are going to sign a player till he signs, so I also only believe we wont sign a player when he doesnt sign. Er, I think.

I have today heard that we are now going to look for younger players with quality futures rather than picking up expensive "names". Reason? RM is concerned that the wages demanded by players like Robinson would ruin team spirit which has brought us so far. Also, if we are relegated, we would still have to pay "championship" wages in league 1. This may sound defeatist, but I think RM wants us established in the division before forking out. Income is likley to hit a ceiling until the new ground is ready.

Before anyone says "source". Let me just say that this came from a mouth very very close to the horses mouth!! Make ofd that what you will!!

I was also told that Tilly has had two very lucrative offers from other clubs but is determined to stay at Southend and wants to take this club forwards for a long while yet. However, if he had the purse strings he would have signed a couple of players that we have now turned down!!
