ShrimperMoan thread.

Certainly. Those who are happy with the current situation, want to give Maher more time, call for patience, grateful to have a club, self styled 'in the knows', COSU only been in charge 6 months, embargos, loss of Cardwell and Kensdale etc etc. Such appears on many threads however irrelevant but always allowed to stand, whereas,,,,
Well I can tell you one thing I am not in that bracket. We are trying to keep things on topic and not turn this into a cease pit like the Southend United Facebook group or X. Don’t always get it right and we try our best. There are no agendas with any of the mods/owners I can assure you that. I wouldn’t want to be part of the team if that was the case.

Feels a bit like old men yelling at clouds lately on here. I've seen zero evidence the data approach is even up and running yet, that hasn't stopped many deciding it must be the reason we haven't signed anyone yet.
Not all old men yell at clouds you know. :Winking: Could our lack of signings be down to KM or the COSU not putting up the cash he needs?

If a number of teams are using data driven methods to identify players and assess their value will it not lead to essentially the same players coming to the notice of these clubs?
That can only drive up the value of this player group thus making it for more difficult for clubs like Southend to sign them. Would that not also mean that now real value must reside in those players who do not show up data analysis programmes?
Go John Still!
Yes- Moneyball is old not new. Any clubs will use- not all and probably less at our level. But what we shouldn’t be surprised by is when we identify talent EFL clubs will have identified the same- many are more and more also seeking “value” in the lower divisions.

I see the data a bit differently. We identify players that we think fit what we are looking for and use data to validate that of question our judgement and make us revisit the players strengths and weaknesses more closely (reducing errors).

If we just plug in this is the stats we want and let the system spit out a list of players they will be the same as others get, and we will miss the real hidden gems that the data has yet caught up with (which is where John Still and co are so important)?

Data analysis is not solely responsible for increasing the price of players, if at all. It's the usual supply and demand problem. We want, as all teams do, good players, goal scorers, great keepers but, there are too few of a certain level to go round. In the days of scouting and trialling alone, other clubs get wind of who is sniffing around who, and the interest/cost rose. Market forces.

That is an entirely different question as to the interpretation of the data. That can be subjective and good players can be passed over because data gives way to opinion. It can still be successfully used in tandem with good old fashioned scouting.

Post #76 has to be the funniest I have seen for a while. Complaining about your own post!!
Nonsense that is well up to standard, I was of course referring to the expected knee jerk reaction from two of the most vociferous Maherites. No surprise at the likes for your post, only to be expected.

I imagine this thread will be quiet for a little bit…
I'm happy to keep it going. I will moan about how we looked so poor against Barnet with poor selections and set up, yet doing what so many fans have asked for has brought about a positive result. I hope KM is going to adopt the new style and not, as so often after a positive result, revert to type. Many of us have said we are better than our performances and today is further vindication.
