We all should go on Twitter, to show Daniel Bentley our support & tell him to forget about that idiots & keep up the good work as he saved us points, without his save, we would got 2 pts from 3 game (before Shrewsbury) instead of 9pts we picked up!

Plenty have

Just forget Bentley`s mistake its football. He saved us against York.

well said - all players make mistakes - i'm sure young Daniel will be the first to hold his hand up to yesterdays - lets not forget the excellent one handed save he made earlier in the game, we have had some great keepers over the years (yes and some not so great) but IMO Bentley will prove to be the best of them all.

Really enjoyed yesterdays game, a good display from us and two sides playing football not hoofball.
I've been a harsh critic of Mr Brown this season, but now this squad he's put together excites me, and we have plenty of options on the bench, when the team news came through it made for interesting debate on the walk to the ground, Mr Brown and the coaching staff got yesterdays game plan right.

Anyone know what formation we went with yesterday? Payne sounds like he had a good game and would be interested to know if he played as an actual CM, as it's been hugely debated as to whether he can play there.

Also, any chance we could bring back the separate thread for player ratings only?

Isn't that what Fanthesis is for?

I agree Bentley is probally the best keeper in this league, and the abuse he got from those travelling home on the coaches on twitter was stupid and they were acting like children.
Dan really should not have bit though, but i suppose he is young enough to learn.
It appears Tango has got involved this morning and i hope he gets better advise how to deal with it in the future from one of the senior players. Although this is not condoning this behavior.

However i digress. Dan was at fault yetserday (Yes i did go) and he cost us two points.
But we should forgive him as it is very out of charactor. But Dan would hold his hands up and admit he cost us two points.

The point people make is if it would have been Paul Smith who made that mistake you would have slaughtered him, but as its Dan he gets away with it.
Yes Dan is the better keeper but be fair when Smith next plays and treat him the same as you would Dan.
Its a bad fault of some S.U.F.C. supporters we all have favourites but move on and treat our goalkeepers the same.

Have commented on the JP roll earlier on this thread [post 74]. Would like to add that on Tuesday without having to keep an eye on Woods, we can all look forward to the dream team of two up front and JP at the head of the diamond.

Bentley
Dan Sorry but your error was to blame for only getting 1 point instead of 3 but will give you that as you have been excellent all season. We should move on and forget it but lets leave some of the balls that far away from your goal when its not needed 6
White Mr Dependable Enough Said 7
Thompson Dealt with there strikers excellently Coming on leaps and bounds 7
Binnon Williams I have had my doubts but he is keeping Sir Adam, Luke, Cian out enough said. Dealt with some good 2nd Div strikers very well. 7
Coker Was left very exposed at times sometimes had to deal with 2 or 3 on his own.
A area for concern but Ben was excellent as usual. 8
Leonard. I do think some of the negative comments have been a bit over the top but a bit low par but aceptable 6
Timlin To me was everywhere and stamping out there creative side A very underated performer My MOM 9
Atkinson a typical Will performance ran and ran and ran 7
Payne Very well taken goal and proved me wrong by playing behind a front 2 Good performance but not mom, still can get lost 7
Cassidy There is a good player waiting to get out Acceptable performance 6
Piggott Works Works and Works Nearly scored. Give's us another option 8

Substitutions I think this contributed to losing two points With 10 minutes to go park the bus Degnan on with Corr and another defender not the subs we used .Very Poor.

Good Pub before first time i have seen our third coach turned away due to the pub being full.

A good day out (Thanks Wino) and a great point. Two Very good 2nd Div sides.
After all we dont have such a good away record and they a such a good home record without a very good reason Form.
I think both are going to finish very close to each other come May.

Or,well done Dan, your fantastic one handed save from their defender earlier in the game saved us a point. Maybe one of the 2 defenders on the line could have put a but more effort in to have stopped the shot for the goal. Yes, Dan made a mistake but had he not tried to get the ball, people would be moaning he doesn't come for balls and command his area

Don't necessarily agree that "Dan cost us 2 points" You could equally argue the failure to get the second goal (we had chances by all accounts) or if we were settling for 1-0, some of the substitutions (players taken off as well as players brought on). It is after all a team game.

The point should not be lets abuse DB because that's what Smith would get. Had it been any one else in goal yesterday I would not be accusing them of dropping 2 points. OK so he did fail to punch but it was hardly the sort of offence that requires some one to be shot at dawn is it. We all cheered when he safely caught under pressure late on in recent games

When we only let in one goal at top of the table 29 goals scored at home Shrewsbury we should be talking about far more important stuff. If were going on a witch hunt why not blame the forwards for not finishing the chances we had whilst 1-0 up

If PB has been defending his players against trolls on ****ter then he gets my full support

Yes Dan did make a very good one handed save.
It WAS a bad mistake (very unusual i admit) but it did cost us two points.
The ball was far enough past the goal and in my opinion he should not have tried to get it
I do accept though if a goalkeeper makes a bad mistake (which this was) It will be magnified.
Dan will bounce back from this though and learn from it and become a better keeper

As goalies in the lower Divisions go, his mistakes are minimal. I have seen all the goalies playing for Southend since the early 70s. There's not one that hasn't made a howler. Some made a lot of them.
Dan has saved us so many times. He's a brilliant shot stopper/saver. I think we need to concentrate more on the times he has earned us points, too numerous to mention, rather than this mistake.

For Christ's sake , let's move on as our next game is 2 days away. Surely the trolls are not going to keep on about 1 mistake for ever.

It is one of the worst things about this site, that some people just don't have the ability to put a simple mistake behind us and move on, instead harping on and on about it. I'm quite sure that Dan will be feeling bad about this, but it's done with. Time to focus on the next game.

None of Daniel's critics have ever made a mistake, of course. What it must be like to be perfection. :dim:

I just hope his confidence doesn't suffer because of idiots repeatedly criticising him.

If it does we will have to hunt down all his detractors and castrate them with a blunt knife.
