If that had been Paul Smith....

Smith saves a penalty and gets criticised for using his wrong hand, Bentley costs us two points and we brush it under the carpet.

Smith was consistently ****. Bentley is consistently solid. Even the best keepers in the world aren't faultless.

I just hope his confidence doesn't suffer because of idiots repeatedly criticising him.

If it does we will have to hunt down all his detractors and castrate them with a blunt knife.

I think Dan is far too focused and professional to let a few bellends from distracting him or knocking his confidence. He didn't even bite back in an unprofessional manner on Twitter.

OK. I'll take the bait. Smith was NEVER **** and was usually 10 times better than whatever the opposition had in goal.

I think a mention for the management is in order for yesterday, tactics appear to have been spot on, didn't even go defensive with subs like before to cling on for a 1-0.

[h=3]Post by champagneprince on 20 hours ago[/h]OK performance against a decent side IMO. We only really got going after they scored and I felt a draw was about right.

A great, unexpected debut goal from Barnett and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can produce for us over the coming weeks. Woods came into the game more 2nd half (again)but Lawrence was MOTM for me although Grandison did excellent after he came on. Disappointed with Mandron who looked somewhat lost throughout his time on the pitch? Maybe there's more to come there, but I would like to see Collins/Barnett vs Carlisle and Wimbledon.

Have to applaud Southend as I felt they were the best side I have seen down here this season and looked dangerous even right at the end of the match

just seen the match stats, apparently they only had one shot on target, and 5 shots in total. Given their scoring record that is pretty impressive

Which is precisely the reason Barrett should not return right now. Posters on this forum are asking for his return on Tuesday for his (potential) ability to score from set pieces, however he is probably still not match fit (remember the reserve game was cancelled last week) and the prime job of defenders is to defend - scoring goals is a bonus. Our current back 5 are going extremely well. If it ain't broke don't try to fix it.

On a related subject, I trust that all this current support and 'love in' for Bents after his error will also be shown towards any of the other youngsters who have been performing so well should they make a 'fatal' error.

now thats asking for miracles. its tough enough for some not to boo thompson and b.williams onto the pitch lol despite them playing their part in a very solid defensive unit over the last few weeks.

What's TBV got to do with any of it?
Because someone had a go at Dan on twitter, someone else said they were associated with TBV, you said don't bring TBV into it, someone else said that the tweets came from people on the coaches, OBL asked if we know the tweets came from people on the coaches (as in 'or has someone pointed the finger inaccurately'), she never got a reply, you made a joke about her name meaning she was a policewoman.

That is everything up to date other than my assumption that a lot if TBV go by coach - hence she was defending TBV.

Yes, I saw that, but you do wonder how they arrive at their stats. There were 2 Shrews shots on target in the match highlights - the Bentley save and the actual goal, so did they miss any others??

Well I was on the train but what annoys me is there is no membership or none of this so quite why you bring me into it I have no idea.

But to answer your question I happen to know the 'young fans' you speak of and whilest it's not my view anymore to disagree with players I do stand up for the younger lads to have an opinion they spend serious amounts of money following this club and yes they can be crass now and again but they are young lads but most importantly they are all decent if you take the time to understand rather then just knock them.

Bentley who I personaly rate does himself no favours having an active Twitter presence when he does make a mistake as others on here have said being a keeper can be a very lonely place! If your getting criticism you either take it on the chin wipe your nose and move on or you block or ignore it. You will always have people who don't agree with what you have done and you can't keep everybody happy, there are some Southend fans that think I am a knob but I have never given a toss who gives a **** about what others think!

We have a game Tuesday now and all we can do is worry about something that was said on Twitter!

Everybody man the **** up and let's look forward to winning Tuesday

Yes , they did have some shots from outside the box, which although bounced just in front of the keeper Dan dealt with in his normal no dramas, chance of a rebound manner. Shrewsbury obviously were restricted to their lowest shots on target this season but no idea how they came up with those stats

i didn't bring you into it I just reply to a post of yours on here and then again by politely explaining my interpretation of OBL's post - because you asked.

From what I have read Dan didn't over react to the criticism. Yes people can say what they want but the criticism of someone who we will both agree is one of our highest performers is generally considered to be unhelpful.

TBH it's all a bit overblown because it was probably only a couple of people criticising but as in football there is not actually that much to talk about even the manager is being asked to comment on twittergate.

There was a match report in the Times today. penned by Chris Phillips, so I'm assuming they got our man at The Echo to knock this up...

Shrewsbury Town 1 Southend United 1
Tyrone Barnett began repaying his large transfer fee by scoring an excellent equaliser on his Shrewsbury Town debut against promotion rivals Southend United
Barnett signed from Peterborough United on transfer deadline day for a fee believed to be about £300,000. He was delighted to immediately get off the mark, easing the inevitable pressure placed upon him. “It’s just what I needed,” the 29-year-old striker said.
“It was good to get my first game and my first goal. I couldn’t really have asked for much more, other than three points. It was a great feeling to see it go in and it was an important goal because it got us back into the game.”
The draw saw Shrewsbury surrender the top place in Sky Bet League Two as they slipped to third in the table, but Barnett is just delighted to be involved in a promotion push.
“I’m over the moon to be here and I’m buzzing to have the opportunity to play for a team up towards the top of the league,” the forward said. “I can’t thank the manager enough and I want to repay him by helping to get Shrewsbury promoted.”
Shrewsbury have yet to be beaten at home this season but they were second best for large spells against Southend.
Barnett’s contribution, though, came as no surprise to Phil Brown, the Southend manager. “Tyrone Barnett certainly made a difference when he came on but we know what he’s about,” he said. “We also tried to sign him but were quoted a figure of around £300,000 and we couldn’t afford that.”
The visiting team went close to scoring after six minutes when Joe Pigott, the on-loan Charlton Athletic forward, saw his close-range header well saved by Jayson Leutwiler, the Shrewsbury goalkeeper.
Moments later, Leutwiler also smothered Adam Thompson’s well-struck volley from Ben Coker’s corner, but there was nothing the Swiss could do to stop Southend taking the lead in the 54th minute when Jack Payne, their top scorer, bagged his seventh goal of the season.
The attacking midfielder was picked out by a quickly taken free kick by Michael Timlin before slamming a rising right-footed shot into the top corner of the net.
Shrewsbury immediately brought Barnett on in place of Mikael Mandron and switched to a far more attacking formation that enabled them to get back into the game.
Connor Goldson, the defender, had a close-range header well saved by Daniel Bentley but, five minutes from time, the young goalkeeper made a rare mistake as he lost the ball while under pressure from Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro.
Barnett was on to hand to fire a brilliant shot, from an acute angle, into the back of the net via the inside of the right-hand post.
Brown was left with mixed feelings. “I would have taken a point before the game but it was there for the taking and it’s disappointing we couldn’t hold on,” he said.

Can't afford it yet we just spent 2million on a sodding dome
