Did he though? How many other saves did he make in the match that kept us in the game?

Yes he did, if he hadn't made that mistake we would have won the game.

Making one save (even 5 saves) doesnt mean that its ok to gift them a goal. Just making that mistake undoes everything else unfortunately.

Not beating him up and we just move on, but he did cost us today, and if it was Smith you would have slaughtered him

We were 1 v 0 up maybe shouldn't of made 3 subs.
Sometimes best left alone.
Dont know if they were injured?

Im sure the front two needed taking off as they were knackered. Only youngsters after all.

Next home game we need to put the team on a bus and send them around the M25, to arrive back at Roots Hall for the game and maybe they will play like they are away at home! :smiles:

We have another game in 3 days so perfectly reasonable to use 3 subs if people were getting tired or had slight knocks, no point in having a big squad if we don't utilise it and the players on the bench at the moment are as good as those who start.

If that had been Paul Smith....

Smith saves a penalty and gets criticised for using his wrong hand, Bentley costs us two points and we brush it under the carpet.
Bentley has saved us many many points throughout this season. Maybe the context of the whole season is why we brush it under the carpet? Everyone makes mistakes.

Its hard to get into a game some times when you come on 3 was to maney for me.Payne scored, you never want to come of if you scored.Paul Clark on the radio said the pair up front doing well.

Bit of a drab affair in comparison to our two previous away outings. All in all a decent point. We made Shrewsbury look very average and could have nicked all three were it not for a mix up and very fine finish.

I was worried about the lack of width without Worrall in the side and felt that it showed, though packing the middle of the park may have served us better all in all given how little they managed to create. The first half was pretty dire, both teams looked like mid table fodder with misplaced passes from both sides and neither keeper called into action. Second half was a bit more lively and Jack took his goal exceptionally well; picking up a quick free kick down the flank, leaving his marker stranded and curling exquisitely across the keeper into the top corner.

After the goal we really started slowing the game down (which so often riles us at Roots Hall) and Shrewsbury built some pressure as we slowly slipped on to the back foot. Bentley came a long way wide of his goal to try and catch a ball rather than letting it go for a corner, he was challenged which lead him to fumble and allow Barnett to dispatch an impeccable finish in off the far post.

We were hanging on a touch at the end and should all in all be pleased with the point. We should be looking for at least 4 points from our next two games or we are slowly going to lose sight of a very strong top 3.

Bentley 6 - Solid and a couple of great stops but turned out to be a poor decision which lead to their equaliser

White 6
Thomson 8 - Kept Collins pretty quiet and looked composed and tidy throughout
Binnom Williams 6
Coker 6 - Didn't get forward as much as I'd like

Timlin 7 - Scrapped for everything and some smart passes
Leonard 5 - Some good work defensively but so sloppy going forward, giving the ball away too often and too easily
Atkinson 6 - Standard Atkinson
Payne 7.5 - Looked threatening at times. Excellent goal.

Piggott 6 - Found a couple of half chances but not a lot going for him today
Cassidy 5 - Struggled to make much of an impact

Subs:
Coulthurst 5
Corr 5
Weston 5

Well reading the reports it seems that we were mugged today. Though it's swings and roundabouts as we were the mugee's last week.

The majority of people would have taken the four points for the two previous games. We just need to take six points off the next two games.

Two extracts from the Shrewsbury fans forum, praise indeed:

Sarfend were the best team to visit us this season in the league, really looked up for the game, good movement all over the pitch and had clearly worked on their tactics to minimise our risks. Couldn't see us scoring to be honest and very grateful for the point.

Two points I would like to make. The decision to award a free kick that led directly to Sarfends goal was criminal. And Bobby Grant will never, ever have a worse game than that. Shocking.

Absolutely spot on Jamo .
If I were a Sarfend supporter I would consider this result 2 points dropped !

Amazing someone having a go at Dan Bentley on twitter for the 'mistake' that led to the goal. I though players had to be perfect for 100% of the time, all the time, just like we are...?

Still as long as we can find at least one scapegoat per game, perhaps tonight we are not really trying if we can only come up with one.....?

It's ridiculous, Dan is one of, if not definitely, the best at engaging with fans and actually setting an example and showing passion. One mistake, 2 points dropped, if it wasn't for him we would have dropped 3 points last week, and he's saved us countless times over the last 2 seasons. Think the "fan" criticising him said he's made 15 mistakes this season, ridiculous.

Dan response:

A good point on the road. If only Pigott's shot had hit the net shortly after Payne scored, we'd have come home with 3 points!
Whole team played well against a very good Shrewsbury team who passed and moved well.

A good point, but should have been 3. If we're going to be harsh, we have to say that teams who get automatic promotion win games like that. Certainly not going to have a go at the bloke who secured the points for us both at Oxford and Portsmouth. Surprised with some of the substitutions today, particularly adding Weston as the third sub instead of a more defensively minded player. Also agree with an earlier poster that Leonard isn't in the team on merit. Still maintain that JBW is a liability waiting to happen at centre half - although recent results clearly suggest otherwise.

Brushing it under the carpet, I don't see that from the reports from the game. Most on here have said openly, he made a mistake.
