Running Thread

I struggled round both of those in one I was very fit only to get fluid on the knee late on in my training and despite the best efforts of John Latimer it was still an issue for me on the day and I probably should have not ran really.

Then in the extreme heat I remember I was wearing a singlet which was more of a fashion at the time before the 118 118 advert guys wore them. When removing at the end my arms all the way up to my shoulders where red and burnt although my body was still white.
The one in the extreme heat ( 84 ), i 'hit the wall' at 22 miles & struggled home in 3hrs 48 mins, my worst marathon time out of the 13 i ran between 83-89.
Following year in 85, it was cooler & i remember getting caught in a downpour around 20 miles. I finished that one in 3hrs 18 mins.
I remember those vests!.

I prefer to run in the summer that said for yesterday’s half Marathon it was a bit too warm rather ironically in the week before we had several days that were cloudy until lunchtime which would have been ideal. That said I am glad I ran as came through without injury and even got a little shout out from Chris Phillips who was on the mic at the finish as being a loyal Shrimper.

I know they are not run by the same organisations but do wonder if swapping the dates of the October 10k and the Half Marathon in June might make more sense as some certainly really struggled in the heat yesterday as did I in the last couple of miles.

I did southend half yesterday…fortunately as a training run …🥵🥵 kudos to all those that raced it to their max and really all that finished in that heat !
I last ran that in 2014, a month before my 57th birthday. That was also a blistering hot day, & after i'd finished decided to call it a day running long distances.

Knee arthritis has stopped me dead. I think I need to shift a bit of weight and strengthen my knee.

I suffered with this in my other knee and after strengthening it is now pain free.
Went to the physio and it looks like I have a Medial Collateral Ligament injury.

It is really painful but probably better than bad arthritis.

One of my favourite races tomorrow the Horndon 10k, great race , well supported and great feast n fayre afterwards, weather looks a tad hot to say the least
Anyone else running it?

The parkrun world record has been broken today by Andy Butchart, who ran a 13:45, beating the previous record set by Andy Baddeley. That record stood for 11 years.
Great achievement but do feel Park run records should be for the amateur runners, just a pet hate of mine, when see records and all elite or former elite runners claim them
Not knocking the elite, but can imagine putting off people first time running rather than inspire especially those of the larger side of the weight scale
Parkrun was to get people out exercising and if not careful will become all about times rather than getting out for however long it takes for 5 k

See, I love seeing them turn up and do it as part of a training session/long run or whatever, but that’s me.

Parkrun is all inclusive, so you can’t ban the top end people, the same you couldn’t put a time limit on the other end of the scale. I’ve heard of events closing down at the hour mark, with people still out on the course.

I’m a huge fan of parkrun, and it’s core values and beliefs, I’m a run director at our local junior Parkrun which I help set up April last year, I can’t wait till January when my little one is four and can do one officially.

Bit harsh.

Greenwich 10 k three times up the hill run in 1 hr 00 m 35 seconds very happy with that and a lovely shower hit the park at 8 k
Lovely race and well organised

Great work that 👏

I’ve got the Asics 10km this weekend, but running it with my best mates wife, her first ever 10km.

Knee is still knackered so have shelled out for a private consultation.

The current line of investigation is a torn meniscus.

Did a 30 minute routine at Leigh steps for the first time yesterday. 190 steps , if I counted correctly.

Was on the downhill of the ninth “lap” when I hit 30 mins and did nine in 30.34

Target for next month is nine complete “laps” in under 30 mins
