Running Thread

Got a no in the ballot, but got a “yes” with Alzheimer’s 😀.
I think lots of charities have still got spaces, but obviously they “expect “ a certain amount raised.
Alzheimer’s was £2500

Furthest I have run this year - 6 miles
Furthest in last 10 years - 7 miles

Oh dear😀
Got my local hospice now letting me know Friday and yes 2500 needs to be raised
Might see you on the roads if in 😂😂, I’m Basildon based

The Asics 10km this morning up in London.

Ran it with my best mates wife, her very first 10km. She did it in 1:11:18, without stopping. Told me she went out on Monday for a 8km and stopped 6/7 times.

Second time doing this event, and I’d definitely recommend it. Nice to run with no pressure on times or performance and just to help someone else.

My knee is completely ****ed and I have put my hand in my pocket to go private rather than spend months/years in extreme pain.

Into the Spire Wellesley for about £800 so far but will get the results of an MRI on Thursday. Probably a few grand fir an operation if required.

Didn't even bother with the NHS, I would still be hobbling about a year from now.

Sometimes you have to spend money in the right place.

I was in wickford for 35 years but moved to just outside panfield, a little village 5 miles from Braintree.
Running is a bit difficult as I am 800 yards from the first bit of pavement and 4 miles from streetlights😀

If you can afford it I think you've made the right move, I've in the last few weeks just had an injection in my back, I've been waiting over 5 years when you include physio and covid etc. completely ruined my fitness and health but started again this morning. Just got to try and be consistent. I wish you luck and I hope it doesn't cost you a small fortune.

Over the last 4 months I've had 3 injections in a shoulder. I don't know how it started but when I did certain movements with my arm above my head I would get excruciating pain in my shoulder. The 3rd injection has completely cleared the problem. (The first 2 cured part of the problem, but it turns out the pain was due to 2 issues.)

Given the pressures on the NHS at the moment, my GP refused to refer me until I said I had health insurance. I'm not a big fan of private medicine and, in an ideal world, I wouldn't have it. But as a contractor I consider it a necessary evil, especially given my propensity to injury, as I need to be able to schedule any procedures between contracts, or at a time when workload is low (over Christmas, for example).

That has really helped as over the years I've had 2 elbow operations and was able to have them when it was convenient for me.

I don't have private medical insurance - which company do you use?

I must have worded it wrong, I waited for the NHS, being totally honest, because I couldn't afford to pay for it myself, I got seen at a private hospital in the end, in Epping, the Holly House but it was carried out under the NHS, I still may need surgery but my back has improved and I was pleased to do any sort of run this morning, my issue has always been consistency, motivating myself to go running on my own is tough but I used to run all the time I've just got out the habit of it nowadays.

The injections definitely do help, I'm not back to full strength but I'm a lot better than I was and I'm hoping if I can shift some timber I might improve further. I don't have private medical insurance, never considered it until I've had these issues and now I don't think they'd cover me as it's an existing injury, or if they did it would cost a fortune. I would definitely recommend going private if you can, the NHS is really struggling at the moment.

Knee MRI results in.

I have pretty much lost my cartilage on the inside of my right knee and have osteoarthritis.

I need physio build up the muscles to support the knee and have been advised not to run again

A bit **** for 50.
What about a knee replacement?

Went the the physio last night and he is optimistic that I will be able to run again but there is a lot of strengthening and range of motion work to do.
