Running Thread

I'm sure I passed Darren Currie running along Chalkwell esplanade this morning while I was jogging the other way. We exchanged good mornings. Confidentiality prevents me from saying if he was jogging with a tall Canadian.

Running the Colchester Stampede 10k on Sunday my first large running event for since doing the Southend Marathon about forty years ago. So this week I did not run on Thursday then on Friday just walking up stairs my right knee clicked and is now giving me a bit of pain so dosing myself up and readjusting my planned finishing time. 😡

How did you get on?

I took part in that, and got myself a new PB (previous 10km PB was from September 2019) of 42:33.

I enjoyed it a lot although was not too keen on the quite steep hill just after the 8k marker. 🤭

Other than park runs which I have been running regularly for about three years this was my first organised run since a couple of full Southend marathons about 30 years ago.

I completed it in 61.43 which I was happy with as put an estimated time of 70.00 minutes.

Great effort that 👏

Yeah, that was disgusting wasn’t it. Knew it was coming too, which made it even worse.

Anyone put racking today? Plenty of localish races.

I was doing Hackney Half Marathon in the sunshine, but knew people at both the Colchester Half Marathon and the South Woodham Ferrers 10km.

Ran an eight mile run round Gunners then along the seafront this morning my longest for a very long time as considering the Southend Half next month. Will try to run a nine or maybe a little more next week then decide nearer the time.

Have done the Southend full Marathon a couple of times previously but as they were both thirty plus years ago I don’t think that helps.😂

Anyone running Southend half next week end
I did it last year in the heat and collapsed at end due to heat exhaustion, feel I should run it to put bad memories away
Also is it a wooden metal, bit of a snob when given a wooden medal prefer metal 😂😂

Ten mile run along the seafront and it was cold and breezy with no sighting of Peter Taylor today which was a shame as I have so many questions !. I did see Jamie Oliver tho.

Will see how much I ache tomorrow then all being well will enter Southend half marathon.

Young Henry Sandat is getting 1-1 running, sprint and surge training with ex UK Cross Country International runner Adam Hickey.

The young Henry is " going" for making the most of his career.

Ran about 4.5km with my eldest son along the beach in Herzliya yesterday. It was lovely and warm, with the sun setting over the Med. Couldn't ask for more.

Half way my son needed to stop and stretch his calves (running on sand is hard work) which gave me just enough time to photo bomb a group of ladies taking a picture!

I’m doing Sikhs in the city that day. The half, full and ultra all start at the same time and the 10k a couple of hours later. It’s a looped race, so as you can imagine it gets a bit hectic at times.

Think I’m giving that one a miss this year. Away the week leading up to it, and not sure I’ll get out much.

I currently use the free version of strava.
Does anyone use the subscription version- do you use the extra features?

What else do people use , and do they rate it or not?

I also ran that in 84 & 85. The day of the 84 one was one of the hottest days of the year, i lost 6lbs in sweat!.
That evening i drank 5 pints of water, 3 cups of tea & a pint of beer, & only had 1 pee!.

Bugger injured my knee so not running Sunday Southend half, to those running it ,keep the fluids going looks like a hotty day !!!
Will go down and watch club mates though
Have just entered Greenwich 10 beginning of next month, the bloody hill is a killer three times but enjoyable

I struggled round both of those in one I was very fit only to get fluid on the knee late on in my training and despite the best efforts of John Latimer it was still an issue for me on the day and I probably should have not ran really.

Then in the extreme heat I remember I was wearing a singlet which was more of a fashion at the time before the 118 118 advert guys wore them. When removing at the end my arms all the way up to my shoulders where red and burnt although my body was still white.
