I am beginning to dislike him more and more each day:

What's fair is you fall in line with the club's new wage structure - like everyone else!

Indeed.

Sorry mate, but time to jog on. We cannot and will not break our wage structure for someone who scored a hat-trick against Wakering and then went AWOL against a slightly better standard of opposition in Scotland.

It aint and will not happen.

Go and get your "fair deal" elsewhere as so many are interested.

Funny how he uses the term "bargaining chip" Pot. Kettle.

Agree. This guys is proving to be more trouble than he's worth. Over opinionated I'd say.

My guess is the dispute is about whereabouts within the new structure he falls in.

I would assume he (or his agent) feels, being ex-Spurs etc., that he should be at the top end (alongside Harris, Barker etc.)

Luggy is probably feeling that as he's been in Moldova and the German 4th division more recently and so yet to prove his apetite for League 2 football, that he should be more of a squad player (alongside Sawyer, Sturrock etc.). I actually agree with Ricketts that Luggy's comments about fitness etc. are probably being used as a "bargaining chip" or in my words as justification for the place within the structure that he is.

It all comes down to whether Luggy (or Tara) wants to play hardball and tell him to "take it or leave it" or if some kind of compromise can be worked out that puts him at the place in the structure they believe he is worth, but rewards him through bonuses and/or contract extension if he exceeds their current expectations.

I dont think this about money per-se, I think RR said as much. "Fair Deal" could mean anything, from money, to length of contract, bonuses, appearances, where PS tells him his place is in the squad, image rights... anything!

This has certainly given us all something to talk about the last 2 weeks, but I think it's time to move on. Maybe there's still a 1% chance Ricketts will sign for us and if he does I'll still welcome him here.

I don't think either side is to blame, we've offered him what we feel we can afford and the fact we're not willing to go for broke with him is actually quite reassuring. From his side I think he genuinely did want to sign for us, but there's no doubt he's used the media (esp. twitter) to put pressure on SUFC to get the deal he feels he deserves, and that's fair enough.

Good luck to him wherever he ends up.

I dont buy the argument 'he has used twitter'.

I doubt anything he has said has been picked up by SUFC (besides Dave) and it wouldnt influence a decision at all either way. He hasnt said anything inflammatory anyway - nothing like what he said on the radio today/yesterday.

Also, if you listen to the radio interview, he says it 'isnt about getting SUFC to pay more than they can afford'.

I'm not sure this is entirely down to £s still - certainly not week-to-week figures. Surely by now we would have said (for example), "we can afford £1000 a week" - RR may say "I want £2000 a week" - and that is that, we insist no way are we ever going to get to £2000 so wish him luck elsewhere.

The fact we are still (supposedly) talking is a good sign IMO.

No one else is scoring Hat-rick for us

Of course he's used twitter, he's incredibly media savy. He cosyed up to Blues fans, said he wants to join, this gets picked up by fans and plastered all over sites like this (that the club does watch), and also by the likes of Chris Phillips who then puts it in the Echo thus putting more pressure on the club. I still like the guy, and still think he's been genuine but don't think he's as pure in the driven snow, he's very smart in what he does and at the end of the day he's in it to get what he wants/needs - if that matches up to what we can offer and want brilliant.

How does he know what we can afford anyway? Unless we're giving potential new signings a detailed breakdown of our budget for the season, which would be very worrying.

I don't see what is wrong with his agent trying to negotiate a decent wage, that's what he's paid for. Good luck to him. If we can reach a deal can we please not start the season calling him a greedy b******d every time he miss places a pass.

Tara has probaly told RR agent what he is prepared to go up to and nothing above that because of our wage structure its not rocket science he wants more money betther get on his bike and look elsewhere

Right - close the thread:

latest tweet from Chris Phillips

CJPhillips1982: Just asked T Brady about RR: "We won't be signing Rohan and not because of the finances. Paul does not see him fitting into the squad."
