Striker
There was no other option. He wasn't/isn't our player.Right call on Goodliffe too IMO, the way it reads doesn't seem we'll revisit.
Think we can do better, two huge mistakes that changed the playoff final.

this is exactly what I said on a different thread.Yeah I guess so. I was thinking more along the lines of it’s a win for him if he backs himself to be back to his best next season, as it’s an opportunity for him to earn more than he would’ve done otherwise.
There’s always a few moving parts. When we signed him we were running out of options thanks to you know who. The option was very sensible as rather than exercise you can renegotiate as we now see. Often clubs simply activate an option without negotiation to protect their asset/ ensure a fee is payable. Not the case here.Sounds like it doesn’t it. In fairness, if we offer him a deal heavily incentivised with goal/assist/appearence bonuses which could see him earn more if he does well, it’s surely a win for both sides.
I suspect another striker and a wide man who can also play up top. With our pressing style we most games use four strikers., and you need to plan for injuries and suspensions. These days whilst defenders normally play the 90 strikers of split 60/70 and 30/20I think we will/should be looking at a 5th striker anyway, even if Bonne stays. So it won’t necessarily just be those 4 as our strikers.
It doesn’t say anything because it‘s not going to happen. What does it say if we keep the same frontline as last season?
I hope we have something else to look forward too.

I think that was partly to do with not being able to recruit last summer. We had to pick up players as the season went on. KM isn't one to compromise on quality any more than he absolutely has to. He had to, to a certain extent to ensure we had a decent sized squad. Bonne is a perfect example. He was woefully short of match sharpness when we came. However fit you keep yourself, if you don't play competitive matches you lose that sharpness. But he's clearly a very good (and clever) player. KM compromised on fitness, but not on quality. We will add at least two more strikers to replace Wood and Waldron, we use 4 a match so with injuries, loss of form etc 2 more are needed plus another on loan.
I'd expect our squad to be quite a bit bigger next season as we didn't really bulk out the squad last season to match the increase in subs.
I don’t think 2nd or 3rd should be the goal…it’s a poor standard league and all they both offer is a decent chance of reaching another Wembley final.Even if you add in Bonne who Kev wants to keep we have 19 and a squad of 24 would be normal (maybe 25)
If we bring in 5, and the 5 are better than we already have…..really depends on the incomings to move us from top 7 to top 3 which must be the goal?

No—there’s a very long list of very successful strikers (well) over 29 at this level and much higher too. Experience shouldn’t be undervalued. And Bonne won’t be losing his speed for quite a few years yet.Bonne is 30 in October and is hardly on an upward trajectory in his career. A younger player with development and better years to come would be better, and fit what I thought was our player criteria more.
We need to show intent, I know it's early in the summer but we have to get something moving sooner rather than later. Because the talk will be about lack of readiness for the new season, if they join too late. The money we made from the play offs should be earmarked for signings/extra wages, as that money is a bonus and something we never thought we would have. There will be changes to the frontline.
I successfully predicted the other day what our retained list would look like. We weren’t going to “rip up” anyone’s contract, as it isn’t that simple.
If we wanted to release X, we would either have to pay up their remaining contract in full, or a mutual agreement would be made on a percentage of that contract. Which we wouldn’t announce until we agreed it with X.
We weren’t going to say Y & Z are on the transfer list, because it doesn’t need to be public knowledge, but we wouldn’t be circulating their names to clubs and agents to help us move them on.
Inevitably we will make signings, and there will be some departures too, but we only had three players out of contract, Wood, Waldron and Bonne. Two are gone and one we are trying to renegotiate on a “better” deal for us which means less money for him. This list was never going to have the 7/8 people that some want out, but that’s not to say they won’t leave.

He might not but he has certainly lost any ability he might have had in front of goal. If I was Justin, the first thing I would have said to Kev and his team last Monday morning would have been, 'sod off and come back in a fortnight with re-charged batteries'.We need to show intent, I know it's early in the summer but we have to get something moving sooner rather than later.
Hopper & Walker can both count themselves very fortunate to have existing deals. Feel both will go end of next season come what may, until then we have one another..
