Breaking News Retained/Released list - Wood and Waldron released

in a way yes ,i had big hopes for him when he first arrived to a big fanfare from JS who thought he could be the next big thing for us , but sadly it hasnt worked out.

B
If it’s talks rather than exercising the option then I wonder if it’s the club’s way of trying to say “we want to keep you, but not on these wages”.
Exactly this I reckon Sam. We'll see how much love there is on both sides of the fence then.

Bonne I reckon has been offered lower terms on the new deal, and if he doesn't accept it he goes. I think he deserves a chance as he has improved so much since when he first joined. Who knows what a pre season and being fully fit from start will bring. Too many ppl on here write players off, what happens if he then signs for another NL team and whacks 15 in. Would we be gutted that we didn't sign him

So, 19 players in the squad if Donne re-signs. Without Bonne, that's a starting XI and and 7 subs. Definitely not what we need to start the season with. I reckon another 4/5 will join the Club before the season starts, and dependant on the wage budget and the quality we bring in, we'll be set to give next season a decent go.

Perhaps I'm too extreme but out of the forwards I'd have retained Kendall, transfer listed Walker and Hopper, and offered Bonne a squad player contract.
Agree totally with that, just cannot see anyone wanting Walker or Hopper. So you end up being stuck with two **** strikers who know you don’t want them as they were transfer listed.

Sounds like it doesn’t it. In fairness, if we offer him a deal heavily incentivised with goal/assist/appearence bonuses which could see him earn more if he does well, it’s surely a win for both sides.

if we are gonna mutually terminate contracts that would happen at a later date , there is not a chance it would of been on the released and retained list
I think most knew that wasn’t going to be the case. I think many will be disappointed if they’re expecting us to rip up contracts left, right and centre. I just can’t see it happening for anyone, unless an attractive move abroad pops up for somebody etc.

So.. Cost us the game? Im sure it does but 45 games with a 5 goal return is woeful.
Not really his minutes work out as 31 games if every match was only 90 minutes so you are looking at around 28 matches. A lot as sub and a lot playing as almost a right winger. 5 goals not prolific but maybe if here were to be played in his preferred position he would have a better record than 1 in 6 matches, maybe not but I think he has done enough to stay and build on this season. Also has 5 assists so that is 10 goal contributions.

The challenge we have is the combo of Hopper, Kendall, Bonne and Walker will not get us promoted. Plenty of effort but not enough goals imo.

Bonne is not the worst option of the 4 but due to the contract situation it may be preferable to opt for Hopper, Kendall, Walker plus a new face, who we gamble on being more prolific than Bonne

Hopper & Walker can both count themselves very fortunate to have existing deals. Feel both will go end of next season come what may, until then we have one another..

There's a hell of alot of contracts up at the end of the 25/26 season - will we see improved performances as players will need/want new contracts, either with us or elsewhere.
