My first game was on the 16th October 1999 at the hall where we beat Shrewsbury 3-2 Neil Tolson (2) and Martin Carruthers the scores. Our line up that day was Capleton, Jones, Roget, Coleman, Beard, Booty, Tinkler, Houghton, Connelly, Tolson, Carruthers

Memory not good. Seem to think it was late 1957 or 1958. Opposition was not particularly mind blowing( Southport, Halifax or Barrow poss). Am sure Sammy McGrory scored and there were plenty of goals and a good crowd. Think we won but not sure!!

I don't remember it by my dad said it was against Doncaster in the FA cup when we were flying and they were toilet. He said it would be an easy to win but we lost 2-0 I believe

I've replied to this one on a number of different occasions. The answer doesn't change, 1956, Man City 0-1 Cup defeat, standing in the paddock with my gooner brother-in-law.
I thought it was 1956 as well, but after consulting the Southend United Chronicles book, its January 28th 1955. Anyway how they were allowed to play on that pitch i have no idea.

I don't believe that any point during the 1998/9 season we were flying? We lost 1-0 to Doncaster who were of course non-league at the time.

FA Cup 1968 King's Lynn 9 - 0 perched on the old south bank, then Brentwood 10-1 couple of weeks later. Dad drove me down from Enfield in a Fiat 124 for the games.

Saturday, 13 October, 2001 - Southend 4-2 Swansea

The first game of the Rob Newman era - boy did we play some great football then!!

Because in those days football was played by real men

Blues 3 Stockport 1 - 27 December 1958 - cannot remember a thing about it as only 6 at the time - all I recall is that my Uncle Mike took me to Roots Hall for a Christmas match - must have been good as I am still hooked 53 years later :stunned:

Sunday 16th October 1995 - Derby at Home (won 1-0) - Dave Regis with the goal

Southend 1 - 1 Oldham Athletic - Mid 1990s. Regis Coubault scored from about 25 yards after a couple of minutes and as a young lad I was impressed by the standard. I soon realised stuff like that didn't happen very often!

Southend 5 Aldershot 0 1990. I wondered why our fans were singing 'ten nil' before realising we'd already beaten them 5 nil away that season.

1-0 v notts county in 71

took a milk crate to stand on so i could see above the west stand perimeter wall. A few years later there was always a big gap behind me and me dad, and it wasn't just cause of me mum's crap cooking

Lost 3-2 to WBA in 1996-97 season the season we got relegated from div 1! Paul Peschisolido and Andy Hunt scored for them and remember Andy Rammell scored for us!

I sat in the South Lower behind the goal and was £4 to get in lol

A 2-0 opening day win against Bolton in 1987/88 as a fresh-faced 6 year old I believe. Never looked back since! :loyalsupporter:

After the 2-2 Home draw with Newport County on a Friday night in September 1967,I was hooked. Highest gate of the season, over 15,000.

Brentford away 0-4 (88-89 relegation season) first game
Chesterfield 0-2 (89-90 promotion season) first home game

either way not the greatest of starts!
