Released Players, Possible Transfer Targets?

C&P - a Middlesbrough fan at work told me today they are about to sign Mark Yeates from you. He didn't seem overly enthusiastic about this but felt at least he couldn't be any more of a waste of money than Alves!

Ha ha yes that is the main club in the frame although I am told he is speaking to 4 clubs at present, fee is rumoured to be around half a million, no doubt about it he is a class act on his day but can be non existent on a bad one and does throw the odd strop :)

Which players, C&P?

Obviously anybodys guess but I would say the following won't get much of a look in next season

John White Defender r/h side
Matt Lockwood Defender l/h side
Johnnie Jackson Midfield
Chris Coyne Central defender
Matt Heath Central defender
Phil Ifil Defender r/h side
Scott Vernon Striker
Jamie Guy Striker

Plus

Akanni-Sunday Wasiu (Already left) Striker

they might be Col Ewe rejects, but would sign any or all of them. Coyne and Heath fit the bill... and we've been linked with Lockwood for years

Thanks C&P - and would agree that those three would be worth a look, if we could afford their wages.

No problem, Coyne is rumoured to be on 5k per week and still has 2 years on his contract however I think he may go just to get 1st team football even if it means a free transfer deal. Perth Glory are interested in him his brother plays there already but we would not get a fee for him I would think and he also would have to take a pay cut, we would save around half a million on wages though if the rumours are correct. Heath and Lockwood would be on a lot less than that, Lockwood has already had interest from Orient and Barnet amongst others, Heath was loaned out a bit last season but has stated his desire to stay and fight for his place, even though Lambert has said he may be better off trying elsewhere..

Just as a matter of interest what is the financial trading position of Colchester? Bearing in mind gates of less than 5000, how long will Cowling go on bank rolling you?

I think we are still pretty secure although a little in debt it is a managed debt, gates are not large although I think they will be a bit better this coming season.
Although Robbie is doing a similar job to Steve Gibson the Middlesbrough chairman in respect of financial support, the club is also making good money on the corporate side of things so things are not as bad as they seem. We are in the process of trying to build a new training centre which in turn should help to create interest amongst potential new signings. Should Robbie cut and go I think he will leave things in good order, from what I understand all transfer fees are underwritten by him to guarantee payment as are the large salaries agreed with new signings. Should he leave therefore although the cash may not be there for further new players the cash already promised in terms of transfers and salaries would already be in place.

So if, just hypothetically you understand, your esteemed chairman should meet with an unfortunate accident like a hit and run driver or something, Col Ewe would be able to carry on while they adjusted to their new situation and wouldn't just vanish into instant administration.....?

*cancels order for false numberplates*

Glad I went to Specsavers, so I could read that final comment :)

Yes I think that is pretty much the case, and of course Jobserve could find all the discarded players new jobs as well, perhaps they could retrain as profesional athletes ;)

That sounds like a good bit of business for you lot. Should give you the extra £'s for Holt.

:darkcloud:

It does not sound a bad deal provided we can replace him with a similar goal scorer, mind you that deal includes add ons so if he throws a strop and does not play much we could end up with a lot less!

Another centre back mentioned by many on here, Ian Breckin, is about to go back to his old club Chesterfield. Cross another one off the list.

V. annoying that the Ewes are in for Grant Holt - a player I've always rated highly, back from his days at Rochdale...

A couple of Forest fans I work with think Breckins legs have gone, and compare Holt to a lumbering Donkey with the touch of a brick.

In their view, we have had a lucky escape by avoiding these two.

Holt does get too many yellow cards for my liking, to my mind he is a typical league 2 warhorse, I will be interested to see how he gets on at league one level but given Shrewsbury want to keep him I am unlikely to find out!
