Ref Watch Refwatch ......... Yeovil (H)

Yes, she had a shocker, but most of the blame must surely attach to the wretched fourth official who appeared to be trying to referee the game and everything surrounding it himself. I can’t help wondering if he would have adopted such a ridiculous high profile if there had been an experienced male referee out there - it can’t have been a pleasant experience for her.
Said wretched fourth official has refereed us on numerous occasions on a Sunday, and I've always found him a decent ref/fella (in fact his brother refereed us last month).

Essex Sunday Corinthian League ? Very much the London side of Essex.

I'd seen him referee at Isthmian level before without any issues.

Most officals I've seen over the past few years would have their pay deducted were they in the real world not this supposed "professional" game.
The players might be professionals but the refs certainly aren't, they get paid a match fee which I think isn't much more than minimum wage.

Do you think the occasion got to him? Is there really a new ruling that managers can’t put their hands in the air? Were his hands tied, as it were, by administrators- Yeovil manager also commented similarly on how they were being approached and how it ruined the afternoon for him (so it’s not just Kev).

When I checked on MoD managers and coaches were doing their normal windmill impressions so obviously still allowed in the Prem.

Probably rewarded for that with another step up the fast tracked elite list! Seems to be how it works on the face of it. Must have a protection team at the FA. If anyone says anything bad, they bring an FA charge against you for being disruptive.

Because Sky covered the game and didn’t do the internationals her mistake has had even more prominence on their news bulletins. Fair to say she has probably had better weeks.

Maybe @Mick can help with this.

When a premier league referee makes a high profile mistake, they are either punished with no fixture the following weekend, or demoted to a EFL match.

I don’t watch women’s football, so excuse my ignorance, but where she has made a high profile mistake like this, will the punishments be the same as in the men’s game? Or is it an internal telling off, and then crack on?

A single mistake is unlikely to see a Premier League referee being stood down with the requirement for Fourth Officials and VAR appointments. These are full-time employees and will review all their performances, good or bad, with their coaches and management and view it as a learning opportunity. There are a few favoured referees whose appointments don't suffer whatever they do.

The top level of the women's game is unlikely to be different.

With an all expenses paid trip to Rome to referee in the European Womens Champions League in a match which apparently went well, she's probably had worse too !
