Pretty sure Southend Elvis is referring to Lauren Impey who was referree at Ebbsfleet for our match in late March. She was, as I recall, excellent. So not Abigail Byrne then. You mean the one who had a good match at Maidenhead last season. What was her name? .... ah yes, Abigail Byrne.
I hope you are right, as they seemed polar opposite performances to me. Now you say it I do remember the name Lauren, maybe I'm not as old as I think....Pretty sure Southend Elvis is referring to Lauren Impey who was referree at Ebbsfleet for our match in late March. Even if Abigail Byrne has had good games in the past her performance Saturday was poor and hard to defend I would say.I hope you are right, as they seemed polar opposite performances to me. Now you say it I do remember the name Lauren, maybe I'm not as old as I think....
He was constantly on the mic to her throughout the game, he strayed out of the technical area several times to interfere with the east stand Lino instead of leaving him to deal with his job, and basically wanted to referee the game from the sidelines, instead of leaving her alone, she must have been confused trying to control the game with him in her ear all the time. Not for a moment disputing that the 4th official was a useless jobsworth (I first become aware of him when he seemed to make subs warming up in lime green tops that looked nothing like the dark green Yeovil tops, change into red bibs) but I’m curious as to how you think his incompetence actually impacted the game?
I couldn't believe what I read in today's Echo, about the influence the officials had on the game...thought I'd read everything about football, obviously notEven if Abigail Byrne has had good games in the past her performance Saturday was poor and hard to defend I would
This what it was for- this has already been explained including by Kev as well after the match. Absurd but that’s where we are at, and the lectures about not putting arms up or complaining about decisions is also why the Yeovil manager said what he did. Basically it seems the officials just can’t cope with any criticism…whether this is truly a new rule or made up on the day perhaps our refereeing experts can advise. Seems to me there was a lot of unpunished arm waving in other games…The Yeovil manager seemed to indicate Maher got booked for raising his arms which is absurd

To be completely fair to the Echo, whether they deserve it or not, it was the official team sheet issued by the club which had failed to change the Fourth Official from the previous Saturday's.According to the Echo, the fourth official was Jack Willmore.
The last female referee we had before Saturday was Lauren Impey at Ebbsfleet in March as previously mentioned. Abigail Byrne refereed us at Maidenhead in February. After the Ebbsfleet match we only had male referees. Unless the statistics on various websites are wrong.I'm sure you're right, but he did say the "last one" which was Abigail Byrne. Lauren Impey was a couple of matches earlier. Both were commended on their performance
Apologies. Thank you for correcting that. I was getting mixed up with the match at Wealdstone which was after the Ebbsfleet match. The Maidenhead match which Abigail Byrne refereed completely satisfactorily was, of course, well before the Ebbsfleet one.The last female referee we had before Saturday was Lauren Impey at Ebbsfleet in March as previously mentioned. Abigail Byrne refereed us at Maidenhead in February. After the Ebbsfleet match we only had male referees. Unless the statistics on various websites are wrong.
But they have got to where they are despite their gender, and have no doubt had to outperform their male colleagues to prove that she can hack it.Ref had a terrible game, was conned so many times, and she fell for it..... why can't we do that when they see the ref react that way?
As for having a female ref, I'm really not sure. The last female ref we had, had an great game, took no crap and sorted poor play out as soon as it started, yesterday was the opposite. The reason I'm not sure about female refs in a male game, is there is extra effort to perform well, to show the doubters what they can achieve, so the pressure is increased.
I would have loved her to have a great game yesterday but we noticed what she was doing wrong, and if it was a man making those decisions yesterday, he would have got the same stick.
The easiest way to prevent any misogyny is not to have women involved in officiating men’s football
It was sick a dispiriting experience watching that game with the referee constantly stopping play and running over to the bench for no apparent reason. Yes, she had a shocker, but most of the blame must surely attach to the wretched fourth official who appeared to be trying to referee the game and everything surrounding it himself. I can’t help wondering if he would have adopted such a ridiculous high profile if there had been an experienced male referee out there - it can’t have been a pleasant experience for her.
Nothing like it whatsoever, there isn’t a black player’s competition as far as I knowThat’s like saying to get rid of racism in football we should get rid of all the black players…
