My old man saw Nile at RH last week - Nile was in good spirits, was having a chat with all and sundry and was charm personified.

Having read most of this, I've come to the conclusion that it was probably someone at the party he attended who has tipped the authorities off. Further to this, the story appears in the Sun newspaper who would be IMO the paper of choice to try and flog a story to.
The bit I don't get is why PB has stocked up on two more forwards plus Mooney nearing fitness. Either we are just covering for Ranger's absence and then will move on Mooney and Nouble/Hines in the close season. Or we are about to announce that Nile Ranger is no longer part of the clubs plans.
I wonder how David Mooney and Frank Nouble will feel and what type of message this is sending out. Yes Ranger has talent but sometimes you have to do the right thing for the club and the players you have playing by the rules.

With regard to Nouble and Hines, it seems to me that they have an opportunity. It's up to them to take it. If they do well and perform better than other options (as Ranger did when he first arrived) you can secure a proper contract. If they are unable to take that chance then that will be down to them

By heck. This thread has got some legs.

How many pages could this run to then?

He doesn't go back to court until mid April. If he's not been sacked before then then this thread could be edging towards some pretty hefty page numbers.

You lot are off your heads.
NR has played well twice, perhaps three times this season.
He has been given a chance by our club while the rest of the footy world sneered or rolled up laughing.
The court case was an absolute disgrace but we gave him the benefit of it being in his past.
So how does he thank Southend United and it's fans? He knowingly takes a class A drug in the full knowledge that if found out will lead to a lengthy ban and harm our clubs promotion bid. He wakes up the following day and regrets it? No he takes cocaine! !
His love and respect for Southend United who have supported him is overwhelming and the love of the fans who have given him far more kudos than a couple of very good peromances deserve? He took his trousers down and sh*t on us all.
I am not saying this should necessarily be the end for Nile at Roots Hall (though he could hardly complain)...but the "its ok" reaction is ridiculous.
Unless NR is going to give 100% to Southend United both on and off the field - then he can fu€k right off!

Sorry mate, can't help it. Went out with Nile Ranger last night

Lets just assume for a moment that the club keep him, and he dos'nt get jailed in April. What impact can he give to the team for the rest of the season?.
I said back in November, that I would have expected his fitness to have improved sufficiently by the end of January, for him to last 90 mins without 'huffing & puffing'.
That's gone out the window now, by not training with the squad for the last few weeks, so it will be next season before his stamina level is what it should be?.
Big gamble to take?.

Interesting......

"he also questioned the accuracy of reports in the national media which claimed Ranger had taken a recreational drug".

"“However, we can say from what the FA has confirmed to date that the position as reported in the national press is not accurate."

You know what this possibly means don't you????...... That's a countless amount of time iv'e wasted reading 172 posts so far over 12 pages of this thread for absolutely bloody nothing !!
 :'( :nope:

Think there is a lot more going on than just the drug thing. A friend (east stand ST holders) friend lives in the flat below Ranger. Apparently its been a nightmare, constant playing of music very loudly and into the late hours. Also Ranger has been having constant rows with his girlfriend which has also involved police being called to the premises. He has made complaints to the club who have been trying to help etc. Wonder if this also has something to do with his club suspension and the drug thing is the FA issue

Have to say, it certainly doesn't appear as cut and dry as the press reports. If it's recreational drug use, then he gets an FA-imposed ban and the club either sticks by him or it doesn't. That both the FA and the club have seemingly yet to come to a decision would suggest there's more to it than that.

If the club is attempting to buy itself some more time with that response and it is as simple as Ranger admitting to recreational drug use, then, personally, I feel it's a softer offence than those we've looked the other way from for both Ranger in his fraud case and Inniss. Yes, they were committed when they weren't at the club, but we were supposedly aware of them when we decided to take them on.

I'd be prepared to allow Ranger back on a number of conditions. This is the last time we can stand by him, the rest of the squad must agree and he must take part in a community drug awareness programme.

We are talking gutter press reporting so of course the story is not totally accurate. I woundn't use the The Sun to wipe my a*** on

If the press was wrong then why didn't someone apparently in the know on shrimperzone tell us so. It's not like they would of had to of revealed detail?

Keep him here and that's sending out a great message, come here and do what you like and there will be no repercussions.

Many other clubs might be able to take that stance. We've a suite in the ground named after a woman-beater, a club legend did time for armed robbery, another winger kept his job after being done for assault, one of our most senior squad players was jailed for motoring offenses. this year we could have easily got rid of a loanee who was jailed for smashing some guy over the head with a bottle but we chose not to.

The horse has bolted. Southend United take disciplinary and recruitment decisions based on the best interests of Southend United.

I wonder if 'April' is the key here?. Lets just say we are in strong contention for auto's, or firmly in the play offs, would a 'Nile Ranger' in the Championship be such a silly move?

If, and it's a big if we were to dare dream of promotion, then I presume we would have to strengthen in some areas, If we can keep him out of trouble (asking a lot I know) and look towards next season, assuming he is fit, then we would have a player who, from what I have seen (on the pitch) is talented enough to play in the Championship.

To be fair, I was quoting from the Evening Echo article that Yogi shared, not the Sun newspaper.

But i'm guessing from the amount of spelling errors etc that are usually in the echo, there's not much between them.
