I personally stopped clamouring for Freddy to play as our first choice are clearly the right choice. I also cant complain about Corr playing ahead of him.

I do wonder if Tomlin and Britt will continue their feats though, now there have been a few games without a win I wonder how much Tomlins confidence will be knocked, and if it is then we will need to use the subs more.

The only criticism I have is using strikers after the 8th minute, that goes for all of them not just Eastwood.

I agree that bringing on any sub with less than 10 minutes to go , gives them very little opportunity to shine.
But I guess a lot of those late changes ( as with all teams ) is to run down the clock when either winning or thinking that a draw is a good result to hold on to.
What I mean is , it's not always to do with the positive impact the sub may make.

Its incredible people slagging off Benyon just because their beloved Fred didnt come on as sub. Paul Sturrock sees all the players in our squad every day at training and he knows better than all of us who can do what and when. The match was played a high tempo and lets face it we were playing brilliantly so why risk bringing on a player who possibly wouldnt give 100% commitment to the cause.
Ideally Corr would have come off earlier as he was cream crackered . Ideally Benyon would have come on as sub earlier but playing alongside a big man then we would see the real qualities of Benyon.
But although he is not going to win many headers he hassled and harrassed for those 12 minutes and ensured that Brentford didnt have time on the ball to create anything and he linked up well with quick feet twice to set up shots at goal for others.

So lay off Benyon -- he deserves the chance to play , so if he does start tomorrow night up front alongside Tomlin ( who played superbly well again on saturday) then i shall be cheering him on at Oxford + getting behind him and all the team...

Its a massive match so lets be right up for this one , Wembley is calling us this season , i can feel it ........

Benyon deserves the chance to play ? Really ??

What have you seen from him to lead you to that conclusion? I think he is the most ineffective striker to have ever made as many appearances for the club; I think even Blair Sturrock had more to offer and I had little time for him. In the year and a week he's been at the club he has produced next to nothing (one rather well taken goal against, I think, Accrington sticks in the mind as being the exception).

Of course if he starts on Tuesday we'll be wanting him to do well, but it would be more in hope than expectation.

Elliot Benyon has scored 3 goals in his last 41 appearances, is useless in the air, no pace and no strength. Freddy has scored 4 in his last 21 games is good in the air and has a fair amount of strength (albeit through his additional lumber).

At 2-2, we needed a goal..... It doesn't take a mathematician to work out the fact that Freddy getting a goal is more probable than Benyon scoring.....Hell, we could have given Harris a run out! But not "1 in 14 Benyon"......

Really?

“@CJPhillips1982: Freddy Eastwood also a doubt with a knee injury he suffered during the warm up before Saturday's game with Brentford.”

Can we close the thread now?

We all now know that Freddy was injured which is why he didn't come on. That said, at 2-2 and with 10 odd mins to go, the team were looking very tired and I feel that had we kept attacking we may have left ourselves short at the back as Brentford were the stronger team by then. What we needed was someone to hold the ball up and to take the pace out of the game and hold on for the draw. Not sure Benyon was 100% the right option, but by defending high up the pitch, harassing the defence and trying to force mistakes, it gave the midfield and back 4 more time to gain a bit of composure/energy.

So basically, Sturrock did the best thing then?

Good, can we stop over analysing every poxy thing to the nth degree now and believe that the management team do actually KNOW what they're doing?!!!

Yes , yes , yes , yes yes , yes................................!

Perhaps Benyon was brought on with the idea that the transfer window is open :winking:

Ok Freddy wasnt fit to be brought on but for fans to boo Benyan for being brought on is not good, even if it was aimed at PS during the game is not the time

For me there really isn't the issue that people keep making out here.

Currently the team is playing very well, and Freddy isn't in the team.

He isn't the only one, and PS should not have to take into consideration Freddy's previous contributions to the club. There seems no issue between the two, so no concern.

PS decides who plays, and we must respect that.

I would start Fred every week, but that is because I was there 7 years ago! PS wasn't, and so can act without bias.

I know. It's almost as if he knows better than a bunch of keyboard warriors isn't it?

That's ridiculous.
I know for a fact.....
Well a strong rumour...
Well ok , gossip then from someone who met him once....
Anyway , it's well known that Lord Luggington of Southend reads this board every week before deciding which team to pick.
Come on , he'd be crazy not to.

You can hardly blame 'keyboard warriors' for questioning the Benyon substitution when the information about Freddy was withheld.

People made valid points based on what they knew.

Maybe, just maybe another club was lined up to take Fred off our hands but due to the continued hounding about not bringing him on as sub , the club have now had to come out + admit Fred is a bit injured , thus now putting off any potential new club....

:whistling:

If he was injured, that explains it.
OK clubs don't have to tell you everything, but our club always lets us know how close we are to getting the Stadium built every day, which most of us say "Whatever," I would love to know facts about why things happen on matchday.. would it hurt to put something on the official site on the Monday morning, might stop some of us getting wound up... especially from the horses mouth, might shed light on the decisions made.

Tomlin was never ****. His movement and skill were always brilliant, creating and making space, it just took him time to score goals.

Had Freddy been given the same run of games that Tomlin had at the start of the season then I get my bollocks to a barn dance that he would have scored more than Tomlin did. I really like Tomlin but he looked completly non effective as a striker until this recent run.

Had Freddy ten games to play through then he would a) have scored more and b) looked a lot sharper and fitter.

I have concerns about this apparent wager of yours and seek clarification. Are you suggesting that you would accompany your jewels to a barn dance if Freddy could play ten games and prove himself, or are you saying that you would only attend the hoe-down if he'd been given those games and scored fewer than Tomlin? Ten games has been beyond Freddy so far but I suggest that, if he HAD managed ten in a row, your nut-sack would be do-si-do-ing for some time as a result of his low strike rate.

I really thought that this thread was done, but the country and western tinge has given it new life. Yeehah!
