I am surprised if anyone is suggesting that Eastwood should come above Assombalonga, Tomlin or Corr in the current pecking order. It's the next level where any issues arise and the preferential selection of a serial non-performer is puzzling indeed.

Indeed.

I have no issues with Corr playing ahead of Eastwood, but Benyon. Seriously?

If Freddy is living on past glories then what is Benyon?

There were though a lot of people saying Freddy should have started instead of Corr after the Gillingham game. I also overhead a few before the games yesterday...although surprisingly not afterwards!

Until yesterday Eastwood has been ahead of Benyon in the pecking order, although not had that much of an impact. For a short 10-15 minute role yesterday I do not think it was that unreasonable of Sturrock to change things around a bit.

Terry Henry at Arsenal last season, if Arsenal needed a goal they brought on Terry Boy, imagine their fans.. if a under performing player was put on before him.
Clubs have favorite players of which Freddy is one of ours, fitness is a big part, but 15/20mins at the end of a Div 2 game isn't asking much. Look at what that fat lump Akinfenwa did at Northampton I wouldn't call him fit or mobile, always scored against us.

Eastwood has come on quite a few times with 5, 10 or 15 mins to go this season and has done jack all

Can't compare Henry to Eastwood one bit. Henry went to Barcelona playing regular football and then on to LA Galaxy playing there too, while Eastwood pretty much sat on the bench at Wolves and then Coventry. Also, Wenger was the same manager at both Henry's spells so he knows him better than anyone else while Sturrock has never managed Eastwood before.

In your opinion. There are those of us who have been able to appreciate the vision and skill he has been able to show in those short bursts. I'd remind you he set up Corr with a sitter the other night which Corr failed to finish.

In many peoples opinion, not just mine. Chapperzuk's post below my post alludes to the same thing.

I'd also remind you that Corr scored twice yesterday, giving us a lifeline in the Cup

Don't post much these days as there's not much to moan about! However this Freddy debate is interesting. In the five years that Freddy was away he started in just 82 games. So averaging 16 games a season. His transfer fees totalled £2,700,000. So not including his wages that equates to £33,000 a start. I guess what I'm trying to say is that he's been poor value for a long time. He isn't going to change now is he? He's slower, heavier and can be lazy. Anybody that says different is deluding themselves.

Pointless really, none of us have a crystal ball to say how that would have worked out. FWIW, I'd have preferred Freddy to start, I think he works better for the team than Corr does.

No is not pointless at all . If we had of lost those wanting Freddie to start would have been all over this board saying 'told you so' etc. As it is they are very quite . And the fact is Corr scored twice , yes we don't have a Crystal ball and with Freddie may be we would have won, may be he would have got two as well, or even three , But I for one do not think that Freddie would have been as effective as Corr was. Knowing that Corr scored two and knowing how well we played yesterday do you really think we would have been better with freddy starting?

I don't think many are arguing about Corr starting above Freddy at the mo but the fact that Benyon who has done practically nothing for us got bought on infront of him.

I'm not saying Sturrock isn't doing a good job but he is major biast towards some players.

Im wondering whether he is bitter about the owners stripping his son of a contract he wanted to offer to him by keeping Freddy out the side.

Luggy's 'bias' is more likely to be patience, as shown when Tomlin turned from a frustrating yet hard-working striker who couldn't hit a cows arse, to being lethal and scoring 13 in 11.

He didn't rush Corr back and seeing as Freddy is apparently not fit, I'm sure he's trying to avoid rushing him back as well.

Major bias? Freddy has come on as sub quite a few times recently and Benyon hasnt even been on the bench. Just because Benyon came on yesterday and Eastwood didnt, it doesnt make Sturrock biased in any way whatsoever. In a game where we had to try and close down Brentford for the last 15, it made more sense having Benyon on over Eastwood.

I would without a doubt choose Tomlin and Britt over Freddy.

It would be a toss up between who would be 3rd choice striker, but Corr seems to be doing better at the moment. Freddy would definitely come before Benyon and Harris, so putting Benyon on the other day was a bit of a kick in the teeth for Freddy fans.

seems obvious Fred is overweight and unfit -

if he has a joint injury the extra weight will make it worse - particularly knee or ankle -

impossible to know whether the lack of fitness is because of his lack of motivation -
or because the club does not have the skill or motivation to rehabilitate him properly -

he is clearly the best footballer at the club but is in terrible shape -

Perhaps Eastwood was more injured than first thought and PS didn't want to risk him at all.

If Eastwood was injured, why was he on the bench?

To be honest I thought Benyon did alright, and definitely looked fitter then I've seen him before, we obviously needed someone that was going to work hard to harass Brentford's back four, and I don't see Eastwood being that type of player. He is more the type that would sit and wait for the ball and then work with it..
