I have concerns about this apparent wager of yours and seek clarification. Are you suggesting that you would accompany your jewels to a barn dance if Freddy could play ten games and prove himself, or are you saying that you would only attend the hoe-down if he'd been given those games and scored fewer than Tomlin? Ten games has been beyond Freddy so far but I suggest that, if he HAD managed ten in a row, your nut-sack would be do-si-do-ing for some time as a result of his low strike rate.

I really thought that this thread was done, but the country and western tinge has given it new life. Yeehah!

Given ten games at the start of the season when Tomlin could not hit a cow with a banjo (Western theme I know you like) then I can almost guarantee that Freddy would have out scored Tomlin. As it was Tomlin built on his run of not scoring and is now a very credible player. I do however feel that if Freddy had the chances Tomlin had on Saturday we would now be looking forwad to Chelsea rather than the chances are a 3rd round exit.

Freddy is the most natural finisher at the club. Just watching the warm ups tells you that.

Had Freddy been given the same run of games that Tomlin had at the start of the season then I get my bollocks to a barn dance that he would have scored more than Tomlin did. I really like Tomlin but he looked completly non effective as a striker until this recent run.

Had Freddy ten games to play through then he would a) have scored more and b) looked a lot sharper and fitter.

I could have scored more than Tomlin in the first ten games!

But would Assombalonga have scored as many with Freddy beside him? Who knows.

one thing's for sure, Freddy has been injured a lot and considering he isn't playing much, it is a worry. Maybe if he had been fit at the beginning of the season, he would have got a run of games.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm not sure how you can 'almost guarantee' your hypothesis, but you clearly believe it. I also watch the warm-ups, and I see a bloke waddling two yards behind the rest of the team in the drills, and the same bloke damaging cars behind the stand. I don't think that he would have created the chances that Tomlin did in Saturday, but I can't guarantee it.

If you mean the most natural finisher of the leftovers after dinner then you are probably right.

As for the warm up, Firestorms missus would disagree with you.

9 pages of nothing really ...

I can answer in 1.

PS is the manager of the current team. PS picks the team on current performance levels and not of levels of the past. PS does not believe that FE is good enough to start in his first XI with a a fully fit squad. PS does not need to answer why he decides to pick or leave out any player, that is his right as the manager of this football club.

PS in season one, got us back on an even keel.
PS in season two, notwithstanding on past discussion on promotion, improved on season one (that is fact)
PS in season three, continues to me, to improve SUFC.

I'll leave PS to decided who is best to start each game for SUFC and leave past glories in my memory. I will then support each starting player, as is my requirement as a supporter of said Club !

It's not a joke. It's perpetuating a stupid myth which gets portrayed as fact around here too often.

People can make their own minds up as to whether he is overweight or not or can shoot straight....Nobody takes any notice of what i type anyway

What? WHAT?!!Your pearls of wisdom enthrall and captivate me. I cannot for one moment believe that the members of this forum could be so foolish as to ignore your brilliance. Your vision, insight and near prophetic ability is second to none. I urge all other SZ heathens to bow before the word of our most sacred and most knowing DWB.

Thats a fiver you owe me!

But you are saying that PS owes us an explanation as to why he chooses not to pick someone - why ?

Why wouldnt he explain why he doesnt ?

What secrets are there that fans cant know ?

Freddy is injured so Benyon came on. Why couldnt supporters know that?

Sturrock as manager should pick who he wants, but he is still answerable to whatever decisions he makes.

I'd say that doesn't need to be notified to give the opponents any advantage. Keeping Freddy jogging up and down the line at odd times suggested to Brentford he might come on.

And the only person he's answerable to is Ron, he doesn't have to tell us anything!

Sorry Jam, I do not agree at all. The manager does not need to explain his actions or who he picks to the fans. If it was tactical, then why would he provide such answers in the public domain.

The manager is employed to pick the team he deems to be right and correct, if he wishes to advise fans if a player is injured or not, fine, but this discussion is about Freddy not being picked for some weeks - then the answer is easy, PS rates other players above FE. Why cant fans accept that its the managers decision at the end of the day, who he plays ahead of who.

IF it was tactical (which it wasnt) what would be the issue with explaining afterwards ?

I dont expect a manager to explain a selection prior to the game, but there is no reason for him not to justify any selection afterwards.

There is no reason why a player is not selected that cant be explained later.

Your comment is actually undermined by the fact that Sturrock has already explained in the past he feels Tomlin and Britt work better together and that Freddy hasnt managed to forge a partnership. Add to that theres the injury issues on top.

Fans will never just accept selections as we all have differing opinions and thats what the forum is for, to discuss the team.

Like I said above, I wouldnt expect him to announce reasons before or during the game. :dim:

He isnt legally bound to tell us anything but theres not a lot of reason not to either.

If you think a manager isnt answerable to fans then thats a very simplistic viewpoint. We changed the way we play because fans werent happy after all.

So why the need for this thread then if its already been explained !!
