For me it has to be Anton, due to the difference it's made all round as we were able to go to a flat back 4 and in can be no coincidence the vast improvement in Thomson and Oxley since he came in.

However it is very close with Cox, who has proved an excellent signing as well.

I echo those that say it's hard this year coz so many have been so good.

I'd go Ryan Leonard because he does so much dirty work. He tackles, intercepts and all that for the good of the team.

Ferdinand has been unreal since he joined, Thompson is unrecognisable and has kicked on so much, Atkinson the same, Wordsworth has been superb this season, McLaughlin was great before his injury, Cox is a class above in work rate and finishing and Fortune puts such a shift in to help the team.

The keepers have improved too and I love that Demetriou really drives things on when we are behind.

so after all that, Leonard at the moment.

But what a great season so far

How many games do people think you need to see to have a valid opinion on POTY?

I'd agree with this, so hard to pick one player but I'd give it to Anton for the reasons you give above

I very much wanted to "like" this post, but never in a million years should Atkinson be described as "awesome","average" will always be nearer the mark.
I don't want to be accused of negativity,so I'd like to add :-
Coker-classy
Demetriou-dynamic.

Pre-Bradford Away - Atkinson = average (or perhaps poor like the rest of the team).
Post Bradford Away - Atkinson = always reliable - you know he is going to be doing his job and has scored a few times as well = Atkotasulous - a new word for the English language.

Anton Ferdinand without a shadow of doubt.

The bloke has been different class for us and turned our season around when he signed. We were leaking goals without him.

I am afraid people don't always appreciate the sheer volume of work Atkinson gets through. Under appreciated

He is the most under appreciated player I've ever seen in a Southend shirt. The blokes engine is unreal! Give him a stupid beard and cut his shorts and everyone would be saying he's the best player ever.

We have a lot of closet football managers here who think they know better than the manager (myself included sometimes). I'd much rather have PB in charge than anyone on here though (myself included). PB see's what Atkinson brings to the team and that is all that matters really. It would be nice for him on a personal level if more of the fans would recognise firstly what a hard working professional he is, and secondly that there is more to his game than just a workhorse, he has been our MOTM on a few occasions this season. I'm totally with all the guys saying he is under appreciated.

Doesn't PG deserve praise for sticking with him when all around wanted him dropped?
