The FA have claimed to have a succession planning policy for at least the last 15 years, when has it ever happened ? all hot air, they say the right things and do the opposite.

Quite. It never has and never will, the latest CEO was recruited due to his food industry expertise (!!!) not for any experience in football.

Given the atrocious results and performances towards the end of last season, they should be. The Wigan display was right up there with the worst Southend United performances I've seen in my 20 years of supporting the club. Up against some damned stiff competition too.

While I'm not calling for his head as such, I'm a bit disappointed the heat hasn't been put on him at least a little bit, might focus his mind.

End of season run in was shocking. Besides Wigan away, Rochdale away was terrible!

PB is deluded and is becoming a total embarrassment to the club with all his stupid comments and
statements.

It's probably an off the cuff question for a journo this week, which has been elaborated on. Of course if someone asked you about working for the National Team, you're not going to say.... nah you're ok mate.

Usual over-reactions...

Journalists looking for stories about Allardyce's number 2 ask Allardyce's former number 2s if they'd be interested.

As Phil says himself, he turned down the role as number 2 at Sunderland but being number 2 at England would be a totally different story. He wants to get back to the highest level (as he should) and, if this were an opportunity, he'd be right to be interested in it as it would elevate his standing in the game again and put him back in contention for jobs with higher potential than Southend United. He even (correctly?) points out that he's unlikely to even be in the frame.

I guess if you hate Phil Brown, you hate Phil Brown.

To an extent i agree. But, it's not too difficult to say 'no comment' or 'I am not talking about other positions'.

I don't dislike PB but I think speaking about other managerial positions is unprofessional.

Spot on SBH! People who hate Phil Brown will always look for an opportunity to knock him whether it be talking about other jobs, appearing too much in the media, signing former players, formations, lack of signings, lack of securing assets on longer term contracts, it's always Phil's fault and frankly a bit boring reading it time after time after time!

OK he's not perfect, but for goodness sake give it a rest!

I agree with both sides but this is the bit that gets me. I don't dislike PB whatsoever but he shouldn't sell himself in the papers. Like you said he could just say 'Im not prepared to talk about other positions'.

Im not overacting at all. I couldn't really care in all honesty. But I can understand why some people find it unprofessional.

PB is a professional media pundit. He is paid to answer questions interestingly; presumably with Ron Martin's agreement. I'm more than happy for him to appear so frequently as Southend United manager Phil Brown; it can only have generated more interest in our club, which must translate into more bums on seats.

I don't think he's the best manager in the world, but there are far worse; and I'm happy with what he's achieved so far and hopeful for the future.

Paul Clement is favourite for number two at England. Can't argue, fantastic number two. Been at Chelsea, Real Madrid and now currently at Bayern Munich.

Yes,good choice, though it would be best to have him as number 1 in a caretaker capacity till Wenger is available.

But when asked he said he wouldn't be signing a contract, so it is exactly the same - difference was he wasn't being asked every week

Double standards I'm afraid

Thats not the same at all.

Name one club Bentley was saying he wanted to play for in that time. None. He said he would review his options at the end of his contract, he wasnt out there saying what clubs he wanted to go to, which is what Brown has done, who to make things worse is still in contract !

Most managers would have recieved their P45 with that dodgy run,it's a results business,Phil escaped that time,I wonder if his luck will hold when the next lean spell occurs.

Thank goodness we don't sack managers who get us promoted after years in the basement division and then achieve a respectable midtable finish because of a bad run during our first season at a higher level.

The heat will be on him if we are struggling at the start of the season but one thing Ron does well is give managers a chance and doesnt start sacking people just because of a drop in form.
