Over what period of time? Don't forget we saw progression under Sturrock for the first two seasons. Mangers need to be given time to bed in. Personally I wouldn't expect anything this season...

Brown doesnt have two seasons, he was brought in to get immediate improvement and was even brought in during April to try to kick start our play off drive or to at least give him a running start at this season.

Ron will not have allowed two seasons to get it right.

If he doesnt get us up this year he would have failed. Whether that is fair not is arguable, but that will certainly be Ron Martins view.

I wonder how many of the Brown haters will be at the match tonight and of those that are, I wonder how many will sit there moaning as opposed to getting behind the team!!!

The constant negativity on shrimpermoan is boring - lets try get behind the team tonight and focus our energy on that!!!

You cant expect everything to be rosy when we have not won in 5 games.

There was plenty of positivity on here and in the stands for the first 5 games or so (even after two defeats).

Patience will wear thin when you dont win games, as PB himself apparently said about Di Canio, 1 point out of 5 games is not good enough.

This. In our financial state, we cannot afford to just sit around in League 2. Ron knows this, he's not an idiot (que quoted comment). It's hard circumstances for him yes, but if we don't go up, he's failed at what he was appointed to do, regardless of length of contract.

..and regardless of realism with financial constraints.

That said, his objective is promotion and that's what the clubs expectations are.

LLLLD is poor.

Not true. That is your assumption of RMs position. Who knows what goes on inside his head. However, he's actually been pretty sensible when it comes to managers, for the most part.

Personally I wouldn't like to assume what RM thinks...

Ron Martin has stated publicly promotion is our objective and sacked Sturrock for not getting us promoted.

How is that an assumption ?

He will not be content with anything other than top 7, I dont need to be a mind reader to know that.

Those reliable sources HP and Heinz told me Ron demands champions league football within 5 years!,Tall order but its doable:omg:

But promotion is always our objective, and was in PSs first season. There's a world of difference between stating that and sacking a manger for not achieving. Blimey, he kept PS well past our failure two seasons running.

Plus, as you say, he won't be content with anything other than top 7. Last I heard 4th to 7th doesn't guarantee promotion. So which is it, promotion or top 7?

Was promotion in Sturrock's first season really achievable? Starting the season with 3 players and aiming for promotion sounds very unrealistic.

Of course it wasn't, but it was the objective. Whether or not that was realistic is a different question.

And anyway, we had four players, not three. That's a massive 33.3% more than you reckon!

I thought it was just Grant, Spencer and Paterson.

I make that one player.

Ooooh. Harsh but possibly true. Paterson has gone on to Burton and Spencer (for all I know) is still with Hyde.

Could do with an attacking/flair midfielder like Grant now - just someone who can move with the ball, turn with the ball and take the ball off the defenders would be nice. That would be my priority if there is any money left in the kitty/budget.

Paterson is at Aldershot, along with Glen Morris and Chris Barker. Ouch.

Aldershot are second bottom, although that seems to be down to a points deduction. Paterson has 1 goal in 10+1 (non) league appearances

Still find it ridiculous that anyone in there right mind can think we can get promoted with the club in such a state......embargo anyone.
Ridiculous expectations from many again.

Ron Martin made that statement at the end of the 83point season that the objective last year was automatic promotion.

If we had got to the play offs then Sturrock may have been given a little leeway.

Theres a different between aiming to get promoted like every team every season and having an expecation thats what should be achieved, which is certainly what Ron Martin wanted for last season, hence Sturrock got sacked when a trip to Wembley might have made some chairmen happy.

Agreed, the 2nd Sturrock season he had money, but the 3rd the finances came back which may have given him some slack and play offs may have done, because expecting promotion that year, and certainly this one isnt realistic, but that doesnt mean thats not what Ron wants.

I think we can expect to be getting more than 1 point every 5 games though.

No need to create another thread for every media appearance he makes.

On Football Focus at Hull, made a comment about Di Canio saying "his teams seem to go down very quickly". After 3 wins in a row, Brown has now not won in 6 and questions the player's character and commitment, hardly someone to make that comment.

I see he did an airing on bbc Essex after the match - Great prediction that hey

They just showed the goals from last nights game. Said Hurst showed some "character". Also said some of the players were capable at playing at a higher level and if you "put them in a quality side they wouldn't go a miss".

A bit of praise for Big Sam there, hoping to get a couple of loanees from West Ham maybe ....
