A very fine gentleman indeed! But the fact was he lost his enthusiasm and will to succeed here at Southend,so best thing for him was to move on to fresher pastures . That said RM was left with only one recourse and that was to bring in a new manager ASAP, Give that person time to evaluate the present squad and backroom staff before seasons end.I wish PS well in whatever he does in the future and good health.May i also addRM has done with due care and diligence what he thought best for Southend. Also good luck to our new manager, im sure he also knows its not an easy task he has taken on,he must realise here at Southend we have very fickle and demanding supporters , we will give him 100% support im sure , but should he fail ,then my advice to him is not to read threads on SZ .

Nice bloke but seems to me like he has lost his passion for managing us a long time ago and I think that reflected in his lack of ability to motivate the players. Wish him well but glad it happend as it did.

Lost his passion for managing us or lost his passion for putting up with Ron Martin tying his hands behind his back, not paying him, telling him how to play?

Think it's all been said already but I too would like to add my thanks, an unbelievable turn around in the club during Paul's reign. Many thanks Luggy :)

tin pot

Didn't think even we could sack a manager only to invite him back for the final at Wembley. If I were Paul Sturrock, I'd tell Ron to stick it. Don't think Phil Brown's man management skills are up to all that much, hope he's learnt from given his players a rollocking on the pitch.

I am dissapointed that Sturrock has gone but lets not over react. Sturrock went into the job with his eyes wide open (and if he didnt then more fool him. Everyone and I mean everyone knew (including him) that the task was massive and that he would have to endure embargos, late payments and dealing with the enigma that is Ron Martin. If he had lost the inner strength to keep pushing on and that is evident in the points gained recently then I think Ron was right to relieve him of his duties. He was in my mind a good manager but maybe the timing was just right and you never know we could still be going to Wembley twice this season. Never give up. UTB.

The squad that PS has left us with, WHEN FIT is certainly a strong one. We all remember the 3 or 4 he found here on his arrival, with(the later to be sold on) Grant the only one of any real quality. IMO our first choice Xl now are one of the best in our league and also better than many in league 1.

Thanks for all you have done for us Paul, and I hope you enjoy the day at Wembley, you've earnt and deserve it.

Thank you Paul Sturrock, you took this team from a joke at the start of your career to a team that should have been promoted last year! All the best and good luck with whatever lies ahead!

PAUL Sturrock has expressed his disappointment at leaving Southend United, but is still relishing taking charge of the club for next month’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final at Wembley.

Luggy, I share your frustrations about what could have been and what should have been. Who could have ever imagined, at the time, just how important the floodlight failure at Aldershot was going to be. Or again, how costly that seemingly innocuous 50/50 tackle Timlin went in for at Brisbane Road, was going to prove..........and all the other less serious injuries we've endured this season. As I indicated on another thread, luck has now become too important a factor in the lower leagues and at critical times, in the last couple of years, it has sadly run out for you.
Thanks for the quiet and diligent way you have gone about your task over the last few years and from what we know about it has not always been easy ...............and what we don't know about, God only knows!!!??? I have enjoyed the communication you established with supporters (through your intermediary) and although there were naturally points of disagreement, I felt that a good warm and empathic relationship was established and it clearly came across that you really cared for our little club as much as we do. I hope that, in spite of everything, you will keep a soft spot in your heart for Southend United as many us will keep for you. I wish you health, happiness and every success in your next venture, apart from success, if you manage another League side that comes up against us! THANK YOU.

As much as i like and admire PS ,how can he say he was gutted to leave Southend when he already previously stated he was leaving at the end of the season.
